Chav
Guys, I noticed last week a rattle coming from the roof latches when the hood was up. I know you guys have had this in the past. I found a quick fix that I thought i'd share: I lowered the roof half way, so the front part of the roof is almost at 45 degrees from horizontal. At this point, the roof latches are easily accessible, as are the metal hinges half way down the roof, and the hinges at the back of the roof. Spraying WD 40 onto the roof latches and all visible hinges and voila!... all roof noises were gone completely, except the window/door seal squeak..but cleaning fixes that. You can even spray the hinges between the roof linings halfway down too... my logic was a bit of oil on each springe i can access cant do any harm. Seems to have worked a treat anyway. GCab
I did this too, out of desperation, and it worked - but I didn't publicise it (or repeat it in my car) because I heard that WD40 rots the latch liner or some such. I'm now after knowing how I can get the silicone 'gunk' that the dealers apparently slop into the roof latches as a matter of routine. Is this sold somewhere ? farhan
I am sure it is, but I think it is quite expensive...dealer went into great detail to let me know how expensive it was last time it was in there to get a squeak sorted...the squeaks are still there though
flex_won
I bought some silicon spray and used it as I would WD40. I sprayed some into the header rail and latches in August and haven't had to spray any more since. It cost about £2.50 from a bicycle shop. I don't where you can get some silcon grease though. GCab
silicon spray sounds fine, if it worked that well (and I assume spray is no more corrosive to the mechanisms than gel)
