newbie thinking of buying a Boxster

Afternoon all,

am just thinking of swapping from a 2.8 Z3 to a boxster. I would ideally like a 2.7 but think that price wise I will be limited to a 2.5 from around 98/99.

I dont really know too much about these cars - can anyone help with what I should look for / avoid.

Also, could i get a hardtop for this year of car, would it have a glass or plastic rear screen?

How noisy are they with just the rag top up?, and what about squeek and rattle issues?

What is the stock head unit like as I have an Alpine9835 with the ipod module?

many thanks for any help

LP

Pick mine up tomorrow, hardtop will fit your car and have a glass screen, I bought a cat D car, could have got a straight car but plan to keep the car for a while and could not have afforded one as nice as this or with the spec, damage was not worth worrying about and watching ebay for a while they don't seem to be difficult to sell.

Can't help on the squeeks and rattles, didn't hear nothing while on test though.

They do rattle and if your looking at a 2.5 they rattle more than later models, Plastics creak a bit and the stereo unless its had Porsches 6 speaker upgrade or the Bose upgrade doesn't sound powerful enough... The quality is reasonable, its likley to be a Becker head unit, and i'm pretty sure you'd have to upgrade to fit the Ipod.

The sound proofing ain't bad though..and the hard top is expensive.. Its a bonus but the fit of the roof is perfect. But the 2.5 and early 2.7 models will have a plastic rear window and is difficult to see through.. 169144-ok.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

really recommend you stretch to a 2.7 if you can - prices are low at this time of year

plastic screen is fine and not the issue some make out (glass from 52 plate on)

avoid dodgy colours and non aircon cars

whats your budget? if you have specific questions just ask
