jackr32
Hi all, This morning I dropped my car off at Whites in Camberley for its first service. All went well until I then went out to collect it. There is a crack on the windscreen which was not there when I dropped it off so they must have doneit. I said this to the guy and he went away and spoke to the various people. He came back and told me that They (Whites) are not willing to take responsibility and as a jesture of goodwill they would cover the cost of my excess if I claim it on my insurance. The crack was not their this morning so it happened while the car was in their possesion. Can I have your advice please? Whites!!!!
farhan
If I drove into the back of someone for no apparent reason, and then told them that I would pay their excess if they claim on their insurance...might need the hospital... The mere fact that they are willing to make a 'gesture of goodwill' means they know they are guilty! It is quite dis appointing.
CarMad
Tough one. Its up to you to prove that they did it really and it was their fault. I have heard all sorts of stories over the years of things getting taken form inside cars and all sorts. They plead ignorance. Their offer isn't bad if you have protected no claims ? But I can totally understand how you feel, how bad is the crack ?
SPLiiX
If there was a crack in the window when the service was being done then it would be reported on the service sheet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so it must have been done when it was there!!!!!!!! scooby_simon
Sounds like they prolly know they did it. However you need to prove it. A glass claim should not impact your NCD IIRC - Insurance Jon ?
Beast
Oh dear and it was I that recomended them to you! What kind of crack is it? What work did you have done? How big is the crack? In their defence this is very unusual - I have heard nothing but praise and like I say they have always treated me very well.
SPLiiX
no report in the service book etc is the proof!
jackr32
I will take some pictures when I get a chance. The crack is pretty bad and it will only get worse with the cold weather we are experiencing. Absolute b&^%$£!ds

SPLiiX
ask them why they did not report it. the windscreen is a very important part of the safety of the vehicle so don't let them tell you they do not report damage etc.
SPLiiX
You must put something in writting and a photo too! you must do it today and even hand deliver it and make sure they sign for receiving it! you must have these thing in writting if they do not play game. Milo
[ QUOTE ] A glass claim should not impact your NCD IIRC - Insurance Jon ? [/ QUOTE ] I had a windscreen claim last month - rang the insurance and they confirmed it will have no bearing on my renewal. JP A4 - I would go into the dealership and ask to see the manager. Try and keep calm and use all the points mentioned by everyone else here e.g. not recorded on service sheet. If they're any good they should offer to do it FOC. I had mine done last month and there are a few things you'll need to look out for. The plastic trims running up the sides never seem to fit correctly again. I even went to see the dealer and they said they are designed for a factory fit and don't take kindly to being disturbed. Mine are not too bad but one of them isn't quite flush. The only option is to buy a new ones and get them to fit them. I was advised to check the seal along the top as well. Mine was OK fortunately. Good luck
Phantom
JP, I have heard of something similar before where a techie monkey was replacing a wiper blade and accidentally knocked the wiper arm onto the windscreen before it was fitted. The return springs on the wiper arms are pretty strong so just wondering if this is what caused it ?. Of course any stone chips on the screen would go towards accelerating the cracking process Where is the crack located ?
Frodo
Ask to see the manager of the dealership, say you were recommended to use this dealership. Have you taken the car home?
AZURES3
JP I had something similar a few years ago with my A4 at another dealers. All Audi dealers are supposed to check in the car damage to avoid this issue. I will bet that they signed it in saying no damage and once you have this all bill is all theirs. In some respects it is up to them to prove the damage was not caused by them as much as you proving it was them. Also if they are doing their job properly then they would have marked it down on the job sheet under engineer's comments. AZ
Mollox
They wouldn't miss a chance like that to make good money out of you. To not even note it is remarkable. Sounds somewhat fishy to me.
Paul
hmmm difficult one. like mentioned its hard to prove, and their offer to cover excess is not bad and would cover your costs, but not the inconvienience. ive had windcreens replaced in the past, and not one of them has ever affected no claims, protected or not. on the other hand...... what would happen if you cracked one of their courtesy cars screens , with a stray stone, whilst in your care?? i bet you'd have to cough up. Windscreens are typically £50=60 quid. tho i would be asking for an Audi screen. not an equivalent.

jackr32
Hi all, thanks for all the advice. Right I eventually spoke to the after sales manager and pointed out all the facts. He is not prepared to move (he is a smug twat also basically telling me he was doing me a favour ) so I said I would have to think about it further and get back to him. I havent managed to take photos as yet (work just got very busy, will do at lunch time) I am going to take the photos, document the facts and get onto Audi UK. If that fails then I am going to make an example of them in the media by using those advice things like in whatcar and see if they can help me. This really has piss%d me off. I mean you pay an extortionate rate to have a service from them (only because it will hurt your trade in / sales value when you come to sell it) and then they mess you about. God be with the days when I had my mark 2 golf and I could service it myself very easily and cheaply! Lying bast^%ds I will definitely be looking for an independent specialist after this cockup
jwo
What a nightmare - it would surely have been marked down had it been done before (and as it would be an MoT failure), and they should have phoned you to say did you want it fixed! Try and keep calm whilst confronting them, and mention that you are reporting the poor service etc (effectively blatant lying) to Audi UK, trading standards, popping a few emails of to the Sunday Times motoring section, Telegraph motoring section and any one else you can think off. It would cost the dealer £300 to fix, but all the bad publicity, lack of repeat custom, putting TSN members off going there would cost them a lot more. You go to the Audi stealers to get the magic stamp in your book, pay extortionate prices and should have to accept this type of underhanded shady dealing! I know it is a complete hassle fighting with these 'people' but try and pursue it!! Good luck!
bearra
It's sad they make you feel like that JP, think in future I'm gonna take 5 minutes and quickly snap each panel before giving to dealers just in case. May look a twat to my neighbours but with things like this when it costs you who cares.
whimsical_chris
I live in Basingstoke and was thinking about using them for mine next service, you can tell them that due to the issues you have had I will go elsewhere. Good luck ! C
Crusader01
I'll make sure my A4 & A3 never go there either. Can't offer much advice beyond persistance, I am sure they bargain on their system grinding you down before they have to payout. When are these Audi dealers going to get their act together! I despair with them.
