Paul Posted March 1, 2005 Report Share Posted March 1, 2005 doesnt have to be cheap to break down and cause a fault. i got a shock off my old printer parallel cable, the outer D bit. after looking into it further, and tracing it back, the HP power supply was gving its 18v DC to the printer keeping it working fine. But at the same time, either cable to earth was giving 120V!! The power supply had gone a bollock, so that put 120v straight into the pc on the outer metal D bit of the printer port and in the process previously fried a motherboard, and hard disc, and not once blew a fuse. preceed with caution, and dont be tempted to put a bigger fuse in, as you might come back to find your house/flat burnt down. id agree with binning it and getting a new one for peace of mind.
