tuscan
hi, im thinking of getting a 172 to replace my 206 gti, is it worth it?
carfiend
Is it a 138 gti or a 180 gti? If its the 180 I would say stick with the 180 as it is a nice car if not overly fast but has damn nice seats If its the 138 then get the clio cause the 138 has no place being called a gti
xspencex
The clio defines 'Hot Hatch' IMO, I'm not a big fan but too raw but they are a hoot...
carfiend
[ QUOTE ] The clio defines 'Hot Hatch' IMO [/ QUOTE ] What heavy flabby with unresponcive steering. If you want a real hot hatch you need a time machine, go back about 10 years and get a 205 gti or an S1 106 rallye

carfiend
even the 172 is an older model but yes if we are talking today then I would have the clio over the 206 or CTR. 206 looks nice but isn't that impressive and you have the rev the nuts of the ctr even more than my rallye to get it to go anywhere. And R5 tubby... you need to buy two. One to drive and one for spares when the first one blows
tuscan
mine is the 138. thought it was fast at first, but the more i drive it the less pleasure i get out of it, but it does look mighty fine[mine has the gt kit fitted]. so i take it that the best hot hatch now is the clio? xspencex
IMO it is yes, the Honda Civic Type R's probably the more reliable option, as would a Golf GTI..both would have to be older too..but if you want more bang for your buck then look at the Clio 182/172.. there alwasy seems to be good deals on them.... I think I've changed my mind...as good as the Clio maybe I guess I couldn't deal with the niggling problems that they have...I'd probably go for a Civic type R..a few years old...and hopefully owned by one careful owner.. [/ QUOTE ] Hopefully being the operative word ! I don't think I've seen a CTR on the road that wasn't being razzed to within an inch of its life !! tuscan
i have heard a rumour that if the fan belt goes on the clio 172, so does the cam belt. is this true?????
carfiend
Well if your worried about it get them replaced and I agree every CTR I see is being ragged the same goes for brand spanking new fiesta STs... these guys not heard of "running in schedule"? shao_khan
If you can manage without aircon get a 172 cup - great fun to drive and IMO ba better car than the 180 Pug as well. Got our 172 in prefeernce to a CTR and Leon R.
