Sinfield
With the new regulations now in place, Formula 1 pit stops this year will not feature tyre changes, but while race fans might worry that watching fuel being pumped into a car is not very exciting, Grand Prix Diary understands that the pitstops will be a little more complex than expected. The teams will be using specially machined, high tech, hand-held tyre pressure adjustors. This means they will be able to increase or decrease the pressure of the tyres to take account of changing temperatures and tyre wear. While this is not in the spirit of the new rules it is thoroughly legal. However, the pressure adjustors, developed by NASA’s space shuttle programme are very expensive. Inevitably Minardi boss Paul Stoddart, has started to bleat about the unfairness, ‘These adjustors are way out of our league, price-wise, and we will contest their use in the High Court, along with our many other gripes’. However, the FIA says the kit is legal and Minardi tech boss, Gabriele Tredozi is having to to make do with what the team can afford. (pic on the site - Paddock News..)
