dvdstry
Whilst cleaning my car, I noticed that my top mounts, ie the plastic black round things which are purched on top on top of my suspension inside the engine bay had moved up approx 1 inch and have cracked the plastic. I have been intouch with VW who told me to take the car in for a quick inspection. I have just come back from the garage and the mechanic there could not give me a reason why the mounts had moved!!! I have booked the car in for new mounts which they are going to replace under warranty next week, which will take a day. Can anyone offer me a reason why the mounts have slipped so much. Cheers in advance Dai

mb
I noticed one of mine had cracked when cleaning it but the rest seems fine so just keeping an eye on it at the moment...

R32North
[ QUOTE ] getting mine replaced next week as well due to noises when parking, plus ARB bushes. done 29K. [/ QUOTE ] Got mine done at 15k, thats the strut top mounts and the AR links. Then a weelk or so later had the whole right side front suspension unit replace as the problem was still there! All better now

dvdstry
Cheers, But still no reply on why it has happened. Dai
Mook
If you drive your car hard on rough surfaces (i.e. you live down a track or regularly go cross-country) then you can cause the top strut mounts to wear. Also if you spend a lot of time on the track and tend to use the kerbs with those loverley white and red rumble strips, this will have a similar effect. english68
I don't drive mine hard, don't regularly drive down a bumpy track and haven't (yet) taken it on a track day. The top mounts/bearings were replaced at 13k. As stated above, they are just not up to the job - OK whilst under warranty (sort of) but what about afterwards! With long-life servicing, this means the car is in the workshop for repeats of a major repair more often than it is in for an oil change! Why isn't there a re-call/upgrade here? Has anyone here challenged VW on this? Should we all be getting the information together and sending it to them?
dubzter
The last time I was in they told me they would take it up with VW if it happened again. As I said they have been replaced twice in 20 months and 25k so I'm expecting it to happen again
