Automotive hookers?

I'll tell you something I've noticed recently in my area. Certain roads are becoming red light districts for used cars.

We've all seen the tatty Mondeo with the For Sale sign and a few brief details and the owners phone number stuck in the window in the supermarket car park, but the latest thing seems to be to put a few of these signs up and then drive the car to somewhere busy and leave it there by the side of the road for people to see.

This seems to have caught on, I am aware of two busy roads in my area with no parking time restrictions that will frequently have anything up to a dozen old cars all parked in a row flaunting their for sale signs.

One of the roads has houses along it which must be a real bugger for residents finding all the spaces taken up with these cars for sale, but I guess as long as they are taxed and MOT'ed there isn't a lot anyone can do, they're legitimately parked after all.

Is this widespread? Do you have "red light districts" with privately for sale used cars lined up in your area?

There was a local used dealer who seemed to have too much stock for a while. Obvioulsy had a fairly quick turn over of cars etc etc as he is always taking a full colour page in the local freebie news rag.

But, to compensate for his lack or forcourt space he used the road I live on tp park up this "excess stock". It didn't effect me as I have a private car park, but some locals would go nuts putting stickers on the cars telling him to park up else where (only not so politely). I think the council must have got involved as he doesn't appear to be doing it anymore.

If you want a RLD for used cars, you should check out some areas of Essex & N. London. It's a joke.

Our local council have started to clamp down hard on people who try to sell masses cars. Verges with lots of room have had trees planted on them and local haunts have had double yellows painted along them, I hardly see anyone selling a car's in the road now by where I live.
