A4 / Cab Gadget Thread........

So with the explosion of available gadgets on the market today I was wondering what you guys carry around in your cars, eg mounted PDAs, portable Satnav, portable MP3 / Digital radio players, speed detectors etc.

I am thinking of getting a Road Angel speed detector fitted, but you know what it is like, once you have one fitted then you are on the slippery slope to fitting a whole raft of stuff ! I personally hate the site of trailing cables, connections into the lighter socket etc sportifs2.gif

I won't add anything that makes the car look messy.

That is why I added the factory nav, I did get a Micro Road Pilot last week and put that in my dads S class for him and that was neat enough for me to get one for myself too, but it will be a hard wired install with no woring showing at all.

Road Angel speed detector fitted

Just fitted one of these to the S4, you only see a small piece of wire from the unit to the front window and can hide the remaining under the dash.

The cigarette plug is almost hidden but the armrest.

Well worth the money, a much better unit than the Snooper i had before.

Just put my Origin B2 in, hidden all the wires round the top of the screen and in the gap in the dash, round the side of the dash trip, all the connectors hidden in behind the panel in the footwell and the power cable runs under the mat to the fag lighter, looks well neat !

Nokia car kit on a "no holes" bracket, aerial built into the tax disc holder, and wired through the hi fi so the stereo mutes automatically and the phone uses the stereo door speakers for sound so no extra speakers needed.

Very neat and will remove without any sign of it having been there.

Would like GPS navigation system though (one that fits in the gap at the bottom of the centre console would be perfect).

Can we have some more info on this please Ari, where you got it from would be helpful. Always thought these aftermarket kits were going to have holes drilled everywhere so have never bothered.

I got one of these and did what CraigR did: as you can see there's still a bit of wiring showing here (now better tucked in) but the rest is pretty good - the receiver is at the front there (it's magnetic and sticks to the air vent, with wiring running out of sight); power lead runs under the fusebox cover on the right hand end of the dash, and under the flooring as per Craig's post.

Could be better, but (now I've neatened it further since the pic) acceptable for me.

I've got a CARK-126 fitted with a leather console. No hole drilling required. It fits over the centre console and clips underneath without drilling.

The auto mute works well, and prefer it to bluetooth as no connection delay/reliability issues and you can see whos calling etc.

Its got a tax disc aerial like Ari's.

You want to put the GPS antenna under the dash and above the instrument cluster to get it out of the way, the cluster slides out after removing the 2 screws and there is a nice little pocket for it to sit in.

I know a moro blue S4 with piano black trim, we could arrange to do a swap at the meet without the owner knowing FIREdevil.gif The roof will be up anyway so you should be able to do it without being spotted sekret.gif

Good idea SCM !! 169144-ok.gif

You can distract them by showing them how the roof controls work in your cab! beerchug.gif

That sounds nice, is that the same as the A4 Avant ? I fancy hiding mine away, I was thinking about putting them out of sight.

How and which screws ? Is it relativly easy to do ?

Any ideas where I could locate my GPS antennae?

< image snipped >

you can see it on the left side front dash - I tucked the wire out of sight...

[/ QUOTE ]

yup thats where mine is, I heard you can put it under the dash on that side too, as long as it doesnt weaken the signal too much I think this would be nicer and look a little less cluttered :-)
