MOSE
A little while ago, I posted a thingy up here about the HK system in my M3, and while I hardly ever listen to music in the car, I was suprised when I first had a 330ci as a courtesy car, and the HK system in there sounding completely different to my own. I know the sound would be different in a convertible anyways. But.....having the 330ci for the second time, I have had loads of time to really take in the car and fiddle about with it a bit. I noticed on the dash that ther is a Hi-Fi button, so pressing that the HK really came into life and sounded completely different. So....changed the Cd to something a little heavier and it made a hell of a difference. So, after teasing the guy at Barons about the CSL he had on the forecourt and the fact that the missus wanted a convertible but thought the Z4 looked shyte, I quizzed him about the Hi-Fi button. Why has the 330 got the hi-fi button and the M3 doesnt. Was this ANOTHER upgrade on top of the HK upgrade? The guy couldnt answer my question. So I am well curious! The answer is probably obvious, but it did sound nice!!
TOK
As far as I remember the HIFi button on the HK system (which is only available on the coupes, inc the M3) had a speaker symbol previously as in the picture below)) turns the HK sub on or off...also.. I thought that after 03 they changed the speaker symbol to read HiFi this is as far as I remember but could well be wrong.. When I had my cab I put in a sub behind the rear armrest (in the ski hatch) and it made a world of difference
loddrik
Doesn't turn the sub on or off, it activates the '3-D' sound field.
Markus
I have the little speaker button. I think the manual said something about "making the listening space seem much larger than it actually is" and it is a much nicer effect. I noticed the M3 didn't have one, and assumed it was because there was no room for it what with all the other option buttons you can have. I figured that just meant the effect was permanently on. MOSE
So......obviously the M3 Cab doesnt have the HK sub?? No wonder it sounds like a cat pissing on a tin roof, compared to the same system in the 330ci. Gonna demand a refund I thinx!
TOK
Im sure the M3 Cab comes with a single sub (ski hatch)...as far as I remember..I was so pissed at the quality of the stereo that I changed/upgraded it pretty much the same week, and this time if I got another M3 then the HK system would not be on my shortlist at all... MOSE
Hhhhhmmmmm, I wil have a look in there soon as I get mine back. I can remember seeing something in there, but didn't really take much notice of it. Then when I enquired about it, the sales guy told me it was for the hood. TOK
thats right that one will be the hood (where the sub normally is on the coupes) this is at the far end (like pic below) but if thats where they normally are then its just like a black flap/lid and beind that sits the sub...sorry my memory is really bad so cant recall 100%..its all that early morning drinking
