felixthecat1
Does it light up when it's not working? Have you fitted anything else in the car that might be affecting it? Have you noticed any pattern to when it actually works? Have you checked the fuses? Perhaps it's just not seated properly. If it doubt ask Wobby. He be da man. Seriously. Wobby
Maybe check the wires to the fan first. Might be a loose wire or maybe you are in need of a new fan I can (over the weekend) get some readings off the relevant pins on my climate control and post them if it will help. Might eliminate a fault with the climate control RobK

Waitey
Hi Moth it couldnt be something to do with the problem you had with interior lights could it, do the wires for climate run in same place? Just a thought.
moth175
Hi, i thought that too but according to the manual the climate control isn't governed by the convenience unit Thanks though
M8CKN
My 2000 Passat did this. Like I had a ghost in the car, as started to work when it wanted!! Needed new A/C compressor and blower motor.
meriafel
Sounds like intermittent blower motor. Mine is the same, is under warranty and in next week for a new one. Works one day, not the next, will stop/start during journey. Showed up on VAG-COM. Check that your air-con feed pipes under bonnet are cold and to see if compressor is OK. Will post results of repair on site when it's done. Had hernia op yesterday (ouch!) so blower won't be fixed until next week.
moth175
feed pipes under bonnet are cold, i'll try and locate the blower motor and replace it, see if it cures the problem, thanks
M8CKN
Try www.volkswagenspares.com or www.volks-apart.com (same place) if you need a blower motor, they were cheapest by far when I needed one and got it too me within 24 hours.
moth175
I'll give them a go, is it easy to locate/remove? Thanks
Wobby
Yeah, but it would be best to investigate the motor already fitted to see if it is faulty, if your getting a voltage to power it and its not responding then it will be the motor/ blower. meriafel
As promised said I would report outcome of my intermittent air-con. Sure enough it was a faulty blower motor and replaced under the third years warranty. It was actually working when the car was taken in for repair but was replaced as the VAG-COM print-out had confirmed it was faulty. Understand the cost of the blower as a unit was approx £250 plus Vat and fitting! How did you get on ?
Wobby
Hi, Moth... how did you go with it?? Sorry i havn't been able to post some readings like i said i would. I was going to get the readings when i installed my sat nav, the install was very difficult and took much more time. I moved my climate control when i modified the dash, so i thought i could get readings while it was in bits. Time never allowed, sorry. Post if you are still having problems. Thanks RobK
