sTTu
Been having a little drive again today and although the 3.0 seemed to go okay, I found that the multi box seems to click, almost like a switch, when you floor it and the car seems to go into turbo mode Never had an auto before and having only notched up 120 miles since getting the car two weeks or so ago not really had much chance to experiment so whats the deal. It seems more urgent than a normal kick down. Sorry if I sound thick sTTu
richy_uk
Most auto boxes of old had a switch on the floor to basically tell the car to get a move on. I would have thought in the days of electronic throttles, the switch would be unnecessary, but obviously not the case. Mrs Richy's merc also has the switch. UBM
It's also great testament to how good the 3L engine is on the cab. I have a manual box - if you floor it, you almost have to hang on for dear life...

In auto mode (either D or S), the cpu smooths your pedal movements etc. You can see the switch sensor on the accelerator at which point it means "kick-down" ...and hey presto! This is my first auto too. After a few months, I got a good feel for it after finding it a bit weird at first. In manual mode, the theres no click, and the accelerator works like on a normal car, so you can sort of have the best of both worlds. Just no clutch to mess about with (which is sometimes good, sometimes not)
