byron13
Folks - Got satnavsytems to fit this at the weekend and it is great and am very impressed with the system. One quick question to those who have this with colour DIS. Do you or should you have the navigation symbols coming up on the DIS? At the moment it is not doing this but Satnavsystems people did not know off the top of their heads how to do this. They are going away to check and will come back to do this later. Just thought I would ask if any of the SAT NAV experts on here know what they need to do to get this working? I guess it is a coding thing with VAG COM? Also I recall a warning that BOSE does not always work correctly after this install! Any idea how I can check as my ears prob can not tell the difference. It does sound good but prob not as "loud" as the old Symphony with BOSE. Thanks all.
Chav
i thought it was the same CANBUS connection regardless of whether its a colour or mono dis?
byron13
Thanks Chav Might be a different code, just don't know?
rjgreen4
I had a similar problem when satnavsystems installed the RNS-E in my 4, I went over to Craigyb's and he pulled out my RNS-E and found that the Bose had not been wired into the Rns-e, therefore not really using the bose properly, he also used vag.com to change the wheel/tyre size that had previously been programmed in as it was thinking that the car had 16" rims, when it should have been 18", could make a difference on long journeys etc. Not sure about the DIS as I have not got it on my car and therefore have to rely on the maps shown on screen. I am 95% sure that the RNS-E send a picture with the turning directions to the dash. Cragyb also found that the old (2004 version)sat nav dvd needed to be updated to the 2005 version for the mute function to be enabled for hands free kits, worth taking note if you want a parrot hands free or similar system to go through the RNS-E. We enabled the mute function with vag.com, utilising all the possible codes but for some reason it would not work with the 2004 software, worked with the updated 2005. Drop cragyb an IM, he knows his stuff and should be able to help.
byron13
Thanks Rigreen I read your original woes and specifically mentioned them to SatNav people to try and stop this. I pressume that when BOSE was not wired in it still sounded ok? Just wondered if you could tell when it was working. Anything change on the RNS-E that I could check. Craigb has kindly responded with some advice.
rjgreen4
we also changed the coding on the RNS-E to send the guidance voice through the right hand side speakers as they previously came through the left, pressume it was set up for a left hand drive car. I don't recall the Bose being much different, but it definitely was not plugged in. The wiring was a bit of a mess after satnav systems had finished but i was not going to complain as the company paid for the nav and they drove from london to Cheshire to install it. Currently looking for a decent tv tuner, any ideas?
byron13
Thanks Rigreen - waiting on a response from them about the DIS and BOSE etc. Bit woried that they do the same install every time (ie same as yours). I mean it does work but I paid for a pro install so it worlks 100% not 95% which is what it would have been like if I had fitted it. Sorry no idea about TV tuners etc as still learning about th basic NAV!
richyA3
wouldn't bother about Tv options on the cars.. The anologue signal is going to be swtiches off in thenext year or so and to be honest is never a great picture anyways.

cosmicblue
[ QUOTE ] One quick question to those who have this with colour DIS. Do you or should you have the navigation symbols coming up on the DIS? [/ QUOTE ] I have the DVD Navigation with the Colour DIS, yes you do get navigation system 'pictogram' symbols on the DIS display. Also shows data that isn't shown in the Nav-head unit such as a Red bar that decreases in length as you get closer to a turn - and exactlly which road you are on when the Nav system isn't following a preogrammed route/destination. MP3/Radio/Cd stuff is also shown. The stalk button that cycles through the Trip computer modes has 4 'top screens': the 1st is Navigation, the 2nd is Blank save for the autobox 'gate' at the bottom (I suspect that this is for the factory fit mobile phone integration) the 3rd is Trip Comp 1 the 4th is Trip Comp 2 The Nav system is brilliant - just wish Audi would get its finger out and make the TMC data disks available. byron13
Thanks cosmic blue. Got to get them back to fix anyway as the battery was flat this morning so wonder what they wired in wrong !!
gizze
I don't see how they can bugger it up really, all the adapters out there will show them how to wire it, and the codes are all over the net for when they plug the vag-com in as well. craigyb
Maybe I should supply installs myself!!! how about it guys? A3, A4 and A6, plus custom S8/A8 installs. All wiring done with latest disk and Vagged for your car. £1000 If I'm advertising, delete this post I just think I can do a better job than Satnavsystems. byron13
Craigb - would have been well up for that, I got worried on ebay getting the unit to start with. You should do though as I am sure lots of people would jump at the chance. Have to retract the flat battery issue I think as Audi came out late this afternoon and it looks as if I might have left the map light on the other night!! In the Garage on Charge now and Satnavsystems coming out tommorow at 5 to solve the DIS issue (I hope) and check that BOSE is connected. I had my first look at VAG COM tonight (proper Ross Tech ones borrowed from a friend) and have to admit can't see what I would have to do?? Any hints Craigb or Gizze, just in case Satnavsystems can't crack it tomorrow. It would be nice to "guide" them eh. Happy to compensate with delivery of backup copies of usefull VAG software. gizze
You really should go for it Craig, there are loads of people that would be up for it, I have had loads adk me to do it too, but I just don't have the time, but I would love to be able to point them in the direction of someone who really knows what they are doing. byron13, print out this and give it to them.... {radio/navigation system (RNS e)} Note: With the RNS e in address 37 and 56 the same controller, no difference between address 37 and 56 exists reacted. UBM
Yeah - good idea! It would be interesting to know how much you would charge and what you would get. For instance, would you supply everything, be prepared to travel etc?
craigyb
I think the charge would be for an RNS-E unit, 2005 disk, GPS receiver (if needed), all adaptors needed for the install. VAG coded to suit your car. No TV upgrade, that would be extra if you had a tuner fitted already. So I could say the following will work after an install, Radio/NAV - CD changer/DIS/Telephone (if fitted). TV tuner upgrades are straight forward, but finding the tuner for the right price is tricky. I could travel withtin reason, but I would prefer most people to come to me as I have quite extensive workshop, but no covered area I'm afraid. byron13
Update - this is what was done. (I think!) "Try coding channel 62 to 21 (mine was 17 w/o Nav)" Got this from Audi world. Needed the key taking out and putting back in for it to work. We had given up for tonight but just been out to the car and it works fine. I like the arrows and distance measure to junction. I also like the fact that it tells you what road you are on even if you are navigating to anywhere. Thanks all. I now sort of understand Vag Com codes.
