mojo7676
I'm thinking of hooking up a 6 disc sony mp3 changer. The car's a mk 4 golf with a gamma tape player and a single cd player sitting on top of it. a few questions. 1. where's a good place to site the cd changer? I'm thinking in the boot somewhere - where the first aid stuff goes possibly, but i read a couple of posts about a cd changer being fitting into in the armrest but i'm assuming that's a mk 5 golf - what is thestory with that? 2. do i need some kind of adaptor/plug/whatever to make sure everything works - any ideas about costs for bits n pieces? 3. would i need to remove/disconnect the cd player that's sitting above the tape unit or can that stay as is? 4. are there any other questions/issues i should be aware of? 5. is there life on mars? tia mojo
shao_khan
Hi, I am not sure about armrest in Mk4 - I know they go into armrst in Mk5 and later beetle models. Problem with the boot is you have to run the cables there which as I am lazy is just a pain. Last time I did the upgrade I went for a MP3 headunit woking on the basis that a 6cd mp3 chager holds more music than I own, so 10 or 15 albums on one disk is suficient for me. I know the headunit costs a little more, but was a better option for me. You can buy an adaptor so the SOny works fine with the Gamma headunit - i cant remember if there are limitations, I guess they will relate to display. I think you will need to disconnect the VW cd player as you will need the plug it uses - not 100% on this but I am sure thats how it works - you could replace the cd player with the 'cubby hole' so you can store a bit more up front as you wont be needing te cd player. Life on mars - now thats a toughie, several scientific theorist suggest that the dry sea patterns indicate that life was a distinct possibility, and given the evolution we have seen on earth it is possible life on mars also eveolved to adapt to the changing planetary conditions. mojo7676
Thanks for all that, Shao Khan 'cubby hole' - is this just a 'box' insert thingy; available from vw, i guess? any ideas about suppliers and cost of said adaptor for sony to gamma? i'm not sure about the Mars issue. one question that comes to mind is, depends what you call/how you define 'life', i suppose. having said that, there is evidence, also, that there are a variety of very basic, simple 'lifeforms' found in bits of interstellar dirt... but that's enough about G Dubyah B for now. mojo
shao_khan
Yeha the box thingy you can probably get form VAG parts. You would need to check with Sony supplier, but I am sure they were pretty cheap for the adaptor - I dont know too much about it, but I remember Wak from the TT forums using a sony changer and adaptor lead. Halfords I guess could give you some advice on cost.
