wrighthere
I have the standard Audi chorus stereo in my A4, but there are quite a few dead pixels on the display. I wanted to get another Audi one (maybe single cd), but Audi ones cost so much. I know you can get conversion brackets to put in an aftermarket stereo, but do they look naff? gizze
What car do you have? You can by the conversion kit from Audi that matches perfectly. I would then look at a Becker head unit, not only is it one of the best sounding but it looks very OEM with its red only display and the plastic looks sort of matt finish like audi too. wrighthere
I have an A4. I have seen a couple of A4's with aftermarket head units and my main beef with them is that they stick out and really look ugly!
gizze
Forgot you have the Black B5. That is why the Becker unit is worth getting, looks just like the factory fit and sounds absolutely fantastic.
wrighthere
Any specific model? Also where would be the best place to go?
BenjaminTDI
I really dislike the look of aftermarket head units in VWs/Audis, the standard ones look much much better, shame they don't provide the sound quality that some people are after. wrighthere
Its not just that ben, its if they go wrong they cost so much to buy again!
alexc
If you want quality without the flashing lights and gizmos, give Nakamichi a try, real audiophile equipment.

gizze
I just sold the A3 S-line and now have the cab, but the A3 was very nice. You really should try and have a go with a becker I had one in my R plate avant and it lloked perfect and sounded amazing. Also check out the classifieds on... http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/index.php? and there was a powerbuy on there for the Becker navigation version for about £400, whether it ever hapened I don't know, but I was consideing selling the Audi Nav+ to go for it I like the becker units that much. Sparky
Sony do one that looks good. I cannot remember the model right now, but it has the Red display that's a perfect match, and the buttons are white-lit affairs so it matches the speedo lighting colours well. It's a matt finish too and is very subtle. Even for Sony.
wrighthere
Been having a look on e-bay and there are a few Becker's, but still not 100% convinced I'm afraid.

gizze
Then you will have to go with an audi unit, why not go for a newer chourus unit at least, I guess that will fit and work OK.

Mollox
They're ALL good. Its like needing a pair of wellies cos you're about to walk in a river (vs a pair of trainers) and then complaining that green looks crap. Surely you don't buy a stereo primarily on looks? I think mine looks fine btw

When I clicked on your link though, it showed me this one: Can you order them in different colours then, or change the lighting colour?

Chav
[ QUOTE ] Aftermarket head units, good or bad? [/ QUOTE ] If they sound as good as Meg Ryan shouting "Yes" repeatdly, then worth considering. But most of them look shocking. This one looks ok though
