wes25
Was out cruising the other weekend minding my own business after giving the car some Meguiars TLC. I was on the home stretch on my way back to my local village which has some great dual tracks and I see an Mitso Evo 8 approaching behind me. I know its irresponsible but it was late and I thought I'd open her up to see what she had vs the Evo 8. All I can say is that the guy driving the Evo 8 could read the serial number on my bumper he was that close. I was giving it everything and he was bouncing on my back bumper. We ended up on a single track road and he could have easily gone past me. Basically I was humbled by this car. I don't know what he'd done to it but I could see a huge intercooler through the grill and a serious Samco hose set up. Don't get me wrong, I love my car but this made me realise its a good all rounder ~(ie more stylish, comfortable, better build) but obviously nowehere near as fast as an Evo 8. However, after all this, I still get in the car everyday and find the V6 soundtrack intoxicating! I still love my 3.2 S Line!!!
CarMad
The EVO will always beat you, but who was having the most fun. Sometimes something like an EVO is so capable its less fun to drive unless its on the limit and your licence is almost lost. The fact they you love your car and the noise it makes should make up for anything it might be missing in outright performance.

wes25
True enough, I was having no fun! I use this car for work as I iopted out of company car scheme so it has to be a comprimise between performance and practicality. I know I've got that right, couldn't drive an Evo everyday! I'm trying to upload photos that I've got as when you see it, you'll love it!
Scotty
There's not too many cars out there that will outrun an Evo. There was only ever going to be one outcome.
harminder
Why cant the Japs just give the Evo to the Italians? Such a brillaint car but the Japs just need to get the styling right..
Simonl
Wasn't it an EVO8 that kept up with a Lambo on Top Gear?
doogal1972
The guy in the Evo must have thought all his christmas' had come at once! S3 or 3.2 even modded are Cannon fodder for Evo 8's. I had a go round a track in one and I just couldn't believe the grip and power! Evo's even make scoobys look slow! nice tale though

rmmacauley
Fair enough the Evo 8 is a lot faster. But the interior looks like a Goodmans hifi from the 80's.

Those prices are outrageous I have a similar story about keeping up with an STi up in the mountains over here in my TFSI. Sounds good except that the guy had his Mrs and a kid in the back seat so wasn't really trying My tyres were almost smoking trying to keep up

uk_spek
had the choice of evo, scooby, M3 or S3... went with the S3 because, a) is the best all rounder and b)the rest are clit cars....every cnut's got one!!! Build and ride quality are far superior in German motors than japs...most jap cars feel like cheap ass taxi's inside...even my evo and scooby owning mates say that getting into the S3 gives them the feel of a far better built car than theirs..... Just my 2p worth....

wes25
I feel much better now! Bang on about the interior styling and thats where you spend all your time! Having said that I'd love to have a go in a Mitso Evo. I'd try and break it to get my revenge! Just got back from a long trip to Northampton from Reading area. That A43 is a fantastic road! runflat
horses for courses as they say, but I agree that the interior is more important to me than outright performance as you spend all your time there (obviously). If interior is important to you it has to be Audi

mrzed
Took my TFSI out on the track for the first time this weekend. Bog standard and did 55 seconds around a 1km track. There was a standard looking Evo 8 there aswell. He was doing more like 46 seconds. The A3 may have the styling and snob factor but the Evo wins in both performance and tunability. I can't even find a way to fit a 4-point harness to the A3

Here Had this on my TQ for over a year now. I keep mine on all the time and once you get used to it, it's great.
