RE: Replica Wheels

Hi chaps/chapesses,

I wanted to post this in a new thread to discuss replica wheels.

I've never had them before, but went to Wheelbase in Oldham today to have mine fitted, and their showroom had lots of replicas on display, including all the popular Audi styles.

All of them appeared to have the same quality finish as the OEM wheels IMO. Near as dammit anyway. I spotted some very tiny bubbles on the inside of one of the RS6 style ones, but apart from that they all looked flawless.

I love my nuvolari style ones, but if you're after wheels and prefer one of the other styles, both the RS6 5-spokes and RS4/TT 9-spokes looked to be the same quality.

The A8 style ones didn't look as good in the flesh. The inside of the spokes is a slightly darker colour, and I'm really glad I went with the ones I did.

For £650 including new bolts/centre caps, fitting/balancing and ZR tyres, I sure ain't going to complain anyway.

Not sure how long the tyres will last, but that'll be interesting. Road noise is quieter and the car feels very grippy, but my Dunlops were rather past it, so will need a long term comparison.

The tyres they put on are Kumho 225/40/18 ZR 711's. Never heard of them, but they have lots of tread and look fine...so will see how many miles I can make them last grin.gif

The chaps at Wheelbase were friendly and efficient, and took photos of the car for their collection too. Great stuff guys beerchug.gif

Chav - Kumhos are very good tyres and a lot of the scooby guys are using them now because they are hardwearing, good grip and good value! My mate has 4 on his impreza and swears by them.....

I will probably be looking at these on my Starion when the rear P Zero's wear out, becuase they are about £200 per tyre shocked.gif

Never used wheelbase before but always hear good things about them and have done over many years! I used to use Automotif on Deansgate in Manchester, but i think most went to Wheelbase after they shut down.... 169144-ok.gif

Yeah - Nowt wrong with Kumho's 169144-ok.gif

I was at Thruxton on Sunday with a mate who's in the BMW Car club Championship

If they're good enough for 350+ BHP M3's on a track - then I'm sure you'll be fine Chav grin.gif

I must say when mine come up for tyres I might just go for a set of 19" 'five arm' replicas wink.gif

Yes, sorry. Just replied now!

Good to know that Kumho's are a decent tyre then.

Makes it even more of a bargain. ECLIPSe.gif

I think the Dunlops were well over a £100 a corner. (Mind you, that's stealer prices! smashfreakB.gif)

I went for Kumhos when I had my 19s fitted and I'm happy enough with them - they were actually recommended to me by R Tec who fitted the wheels.

As for the replica wheels I don't see how anyone can argue at £650 notes for 18s with decent tyres - almost makes it pointless in buying tyres on there own when you can have new wheels for a little more!

I got mine from Wheelbase too, 18's with tyres £550 - Bargain, at that price you can get a new set every time the tyres run bald. I am still struggling with the centre caps though as they put the horrible chrome looking ones - I've found on here from a couple of years ago a mod that you can do to a genuine Audi centre cap so I am going to buy 1 centre cap and see if I can do the mod.

The Kumho tyres are superb in my opinion for the money. I can take the car to nearly flat out and there isn't even a rattle. They are a fraction dodgy in the wet though but I think all tyres can be at times.
