Hello!

I'm thinking of changing my BMW 325 to an Audi A4 2.4 cabriolet. A main dealer has suggested the car below and was hoping you could advise on whether the spec is good value for money.

30/01/2003 A4 Cabriolet 2.4 Sport Multitronic

Silver Metallic, Black Leather & Alcantara, Electronic Climate Control,

Symphony 6 CD System, BOSE Speaker Upgrade, Multitronic 3 Spoke Sports

Steering Wheel, Acoustic Rear Parking Sensors, Cruise Control, 17" 'Star'

Alloy Wheels, Electric/Heated Front Sports Seats with Electric Lumbar

Support, Heated Door Mirrors & Heated Washer Jets, Interior Light Pack,

Grey Birch Inlay, Drivers Armrest, Drivers Information System, Front Fog

Lamps, Front & Side Airbags, Remote Alarm, Electric Front & Rear Windows,

Central Locking, ABS, ESP, 26k miles.

£25,995

cheers!

Welcome mate! beerchug.gif

TBH, I think you should look for a 3.0.

The 3.0 is made from a lighter alloy, suits the cab really well (its a heavy car)

....and I can get 400-500 miles from a tank in my 3.0 multitronic cab 169144-ok.gif

That price for a 2.4 is far too high though, btw.

I'd agree with Chav, far too high for a 2.4 03 plate, even with the extras. My part ex 2.4 cab on an 03 plate is on at my dealers for 22,995 admittedly with fewer extras.

Having had a 2.4 cab for a (short) while I would definitely go for the 3.0 if I were looking again. The 2.4 is silky smooth, but a heavy engine, and eats petrol and oil.

Theres a great thread here on buying a cab - help me someone technical and put that linky thing in?! 169144-ok.gif

Welcome to TSN!

As already said I think the 2.4 Cab you're looking at is a bit over priced, by the looks of it there are a fair few 2.4s for sale at the minute.

By ther way I switched from a BMW 330d to a 1.8 T A4 Cabriolet earlier in the year and haven't looked back!

wow, thanks for the advice and link! You've saved me a 30 mile trip to the dealer...

I thought the 3.0 would be too much of a petrol guzzler but I guess I should reconsider.

Now to wade through that link. Stand by for pics if I make the plunge!

Thanks again for your responses!

Walmington welcome indeed, do let us have pics if you buy, we are a very nosey bunch!! jump.gif

Would suggest you drive all of the engines, read the linky and see what options are also available/important to you. The two things I missed most having seen/heard others...wind break and BOSE!! just my experience obviously. Then I went to a TT! The 3.0 won't be worse than the 2.4 on fluids consumption, trust me! ECLIPSe.gif

The cab is a superb car, turns heads and is great to drive. Read Ari's review of his top down cruising weekend as well. (UBM help me, find the linky?!!)

Good luck! 169144-ok.gif

May I apply for membership to the Audi owners club?? jump.gif

I just put down a deposit for a new car!!

Specs:

1.8T Sport

Atlas Gray

Black full leather

Black hood

Multitronic

PDC

Bose

Electric Seats

Gray Birch inlay

Heated front seats

Interior light pack

Symphony 6 CD changer

Its a brand new car which was already specced out and the dealer gave me a good price (I hope!! £29500 down from OTR price of £31,700)

Taking delivery of it on 1st Sept as I may as well wait for the new registration. Can't wait!!

I took a test drive of another 1.8 to get a feel for the engine at a decent speed (70mph) and I was pleasantly surprised as it didnt work as hard as I thought it might.

Thoughts? Please don't tell me I made a fundamental flaw somewhere...

That sounds like an excellent car to me! 169144-ok.gif

There is an Atlas cab at the back of my house and it looks very smart. grin.gif I bet you can't wait until the 1st of Sept! We will want to see loads of pics.

The Mafioso and Guild of Blingers should be along soon to sort out your membership.......(when they come in from cleaning their cars... coffee.gif)

Welcome! jump.gif

Thanks! Dont know if I'll be able to sleep tonight.. smirk.gif

There was just one slight downer to the deal though. The dealer went all out to try and sell me PCP and I almost signed up on the spot when he said the interest would "only" be 4.25%. Good thing my wife was with me though because she reckoned we've should sleep on it and having done the maths upon coming back home (well, I got help actually.. znaika.gif), the APR is over 20%!! On reflection, the dealer was decidedly evasive and didn't mention that 4.25% wasn't the APR.

I just don't get why some people feel the need to pull a fast one at every turn.

Not to worry though, not much can dampen my mood right now! jump.gif

That sounds a fantastic spec. cool.gif

Atlas is a great colour, little less "heavy" than Dolphin.

I have the 1.8T and am really impressed with how it goes, much better than expected. 169144-ok.gif

Good choice and sounds like a good deal too. beerchug.gif

Gorgeous car, and a nice spec. You'll love it!! 169144-ok.gif

But I trust you want us to be honest?

... the new model will be out Q1 2006, and whether you prefer the new looks or not, it will affect 2nd hand prices after a few months.

Also, why wait until september? You'll miss 4 weeks of summer. I'd rather enjoy August with my new cab than get a new plate on september 1st which has dubious street-cred nowadays, as there are so many new cars.

and of course, most people put a private plate on premium cars 169144-ok.gif

How long are you planning on keeping it btw?

New one likely to be dearer though won't it? Plus he won't get over £2K off as he has on this one I'd guess.

Agree a bit about the numberplate thing, especcially as it's going from 05 to 55, not, say, 55 to 06 which brings it into a different calendar year, and as you say, it is summer...

I'd have thought everyone gets 6-9% discount nowadays.

I can't believe anyone pays ticket price! smashfreakB.gif

If you need the discount code to mention to the dealer, it's dead easy to remember... BMW ! znaika.gif

8% off 30K is £2400. Should be attainable without too much hassle. 169144-ok.gif

Deals will be more dependant on your timing and model this year. The rules on allocation changed for 2005. When a dealer signed his sales contract for 2005 the numbers were set in stone. In 2004 if a dealer used up his allocation of a paticular model they could normally get additional units. I know my local dealer is running out of A4 allocation so is tightening up on the discounts.

The front end margin for all models except A8 changed earlier this year, it had been 4% but this has increased to 6%.

Sounds like a nice car.

I borrowed a small amount through VW finance to pay for the cab. Again, I was quoted a "flat rate" of 4.25%, which actually turns out to be an APR of about 9% fixed over the three year term. They are feckers with the finance.

However, your purchase sounds fine. If the B7 saloon and avant is anything to go by, I'm sure the cab will be a dogs breakfast too when it comes out in January. I really can't get on with this new grill on the B7....

Well, to be honest It will take me a couple of weeks to sort out my finance and sell my BMW so I'm really "only" waiting for two weeks for the new registration.

Given that I've only had the BMW for 3 months, I'm hoping to do better and keep this one for much longer! lol.gif

I did read a thread on the B7 before I went to the dealer but the new grill etc didn't excite me enought to wait until it comes out.

Well worth waiting if only a fortnight or so, partly for the kudos of the latest plate (bit frustrating having a brand spanking new car with the "old" plate a fortnight after you get it) plus it will affect the residuals to a degree.

Great stuff. I was just trying to point out the other options.

I agree entirely, and have no intention of buying a B7 A4 cab. I love my B6 and the B7 doesn't have that "buy me now" appeal so far. 169144-ok.gif

Will have to see some in the flesh and see if that magic appeal grabs me like the B6 did. smlove2.gif
