jnrdavo
Don't normally feel the need to do this, but hopefully somebody can learn from my mistakes. I've recently undergone the misfortune of trying to purchase a aircon control for a B6 A4 from a guy called & ... beware.... no response for weeks, then I advise I will post negative details of him on the forum, abuse from him then he says that he will look for my order (I paid the money via paypal). Anyway, no response at all. I contact paypal and they advise me that my complaint has been resolved and I am in the right, but no they can't refund my money. Just to let you know how much of a mug I was, it cost me 210 pounds sterling. BEWARE!
UBM
Sorry to hear this mate. I thought paypal covered any losses? And e-bay will be ineterested in the dodgy trader.
Scotty
Why won't they cover the cost? Was it a non-premier account or something?
Chillihead
That is worrying. I thought that PayPal offered some sort of insurance. BTW if an item is paid for by CC does it not automatically have cover from CC company?
Ari
Should do. My uncle bought a camera on Ebay that never turned up. Paypal would only cover a proportion, but his credit card company came up trumps.
jnrdavo
thanks all for your questions... Here is the reply from paypal: "Dear Stuart Davidson, After careful review, we have concluded our investigation of the Buyer Complaint described below. We have decided in your favour, however, we were unable to recover any funds from the seller's account. As stated in the PayPal User Agreement, recovery of funds associated with a Buyer Complaint cannot be guaranteed. We will make our best effort to recover the funds in question if they become available in the seller's account in the future. Please be assured that we will also take appropriate action against the seller's account, which may include limitation of the seller's account privileges." Ari
Most definitely worth trying your credit card company.

Snail
I've had this before. If you have to buy anything expensive from ebay, always use a credit card, because paypal/ebay are sh##e at helping you get your money back.
danksy
Sorry about this mate. I though paypal was "cast-iron" as well! If you can get his details contact the police to complain about fraud! This will make the ****er cough up!
ian_m
as Danksy says, report this to the police, there are ways of finding this person
CactusGreen
As I understand it, having had a similar problem with an ebay item, PayPal can only recover funds from the users PayPal account - if there are no funds in it you get nothing Agree on the credit card - got my refund direct from them
Ari
[ QUOTE ] As I understand it, having had a similar problem with an ebay item, PayPal can only recover funds from the users PayPal account - if there are no funds in it you get nothing [/ QUOTE ] How pointless is that! No one perpetrating a fraud is going to leave money in their account to be snatched bck are they?
Thorburn
I think the Paypal protection depends on what they do with the money after they have it, my friend managed to claim back £400 he spent on a CPU which was never sent to him.
