Drinks
Afternoon all, just come home from a not so pleasant drive. Imagine the scene. Nice tranquil drive through a smallish village hence a 30 mile zone, travelling within the speed limit. Notice that the car (an older model Rover) I am gaining on is a not looking so well maintained and isn't being driven particularly smoothly. Decide, that seeing as I'm in no rush, to give it a little bit more room. The Rover then approaches a very gentle curve in the road, not a major obstacle to any capable road user. It would appear though, that this is not the case for the driver of this particular car as she manages to clip the kerb. In this maneuvre she dislodges her wheeltrim. The wheeltrim then decides to go on a little adveture along the road in the direction of traffic for about 5 metres or so and then decides to veer off into the oncoming traffis where it greets an Escort and bounces straight back towards me . This is when it all starts to go wrong for me, re-checking my rear view I have a vectra who isn't so keen on the 30mph limit and is sitting about 1m off my bumper and an angry looking wheel trim heading straight for me. I brake as much as I dare and then prepare for inevitable crunch as the trim hits my front skirt (see attached) No other choice really as not prepared to suffer being rear ended for the sake of a wheel trim. As we leave the village entering the 60 zone Rover driver decides that'll be a bit much for her and pulls over (taking an age to carry out this maneuvre) as I pass her on my way to the nearest layby to inspect the damage , I take note that she must be about 80 without a care in the world. Calmed down now but at the time I was fuming just thought I'd share my tale of woe
Milo
Bad luck mate, you have my sympathy. I hate that feeling when you know what's about to happen and there's nothing you can do about it. By the look of it, it is repairable though by a Chipsaway type fella if it is really bugging you but sod's law says as soon as it is repaired, you'll collect a big stone chip in the same place. The damage on the chrome trim may well polish out to a large degree. Like you say, it gets you mad at the time but when you calm down things don't seem so bad. It least you didn't have to stand back and watch your car trundle into a pile of roof tiles
UBM
Bad luck mate - you were quite lucky, it could have been mcuh worse. It certainly looks "chipsawayable!...."
Drinks
Thanks for the thoughts guys. Milo and the tiles certainly went through my mind when going down the oh well could have been worse route. In all honesty I probably won't get it chipsawayed as, like you say, it'll only be replaced by something else. Had a little look at it again and the chrome damage is virtually gone after a bit of tlc.
