Hi all,

Just found this forum and it's great cool.gif

I'm currently in the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean on business away from my home that is one of the other islands.

I'm relocating to the UK and have already organised a house there and a vehicle.

The vehicle is an Audi 80 2.0E Avant (one owner 67K miles) that I bought in April 05 to use while I settle on the right kind of car for the UK.

Have now realised that the A8 is the best thing since sliced bread and this is the one for me.

Have had 3 other Audi's in the past and they have all been good vehicles.

Have read many pages in this formum so got a lot of information but I have just a couple of questions to aks you experts, if you don't mind:

1) 'Cause I have not been in the UK permanently for a long while I don't have any no claims bonus so insurance is real expensive. Is there a big difference in insurance costs between the 2.8 and the other engine sizes?

2) I find the 80 2.0E just a bit slow on acceleration (my other cars are all 2.4 litre and above). Would the performance of a 2.8 be similar to the 80 or better 'cause of the alluminium and a newer engine design?

3) Finally I'm into cars so rather have a couple of older ones rather than just one newer car. I saw a 1998 2.8 SE A8 for 6K pounds (one owner 66K miles), which seems remarkably good value. In terms of the reliability of the A8, should I keep the 80 as a back up car?

If looking for insurance try www.confused.com. They check 94% of the WEB insurance companies and will return the quotes in a couple of minutes. Good site.

I think the 2.8 is group 19, with the 3.7 and 4.2 group 20. I managed to get fully comp with protected no claims from admiral for £390, through confused.com. 38years old with no points.

I have a '97 4.2 QS and it is the Dogs B.

Welcome and good luck.
