aswall
Have fiddled about with mine since the disc arrived on Sat and can't seem to activate TMC. It is greyed out and the option to tune the TMC channel as shown in the manual does not appear. I am beginning to think that it has not been activated on the Golf but has anyone with a Mk5 got it working? It's not a reception problem as it is working fine on a friend's BMW
Nick_S
I was told VW do not supply a TMC enabled disk. Bought mine from Tele Atlas for £168.50, TMC now works in my Golf
lagrian
Is the TMC enabled disk worth it ? Have been contemplating buying it myself.
aswall
Yes I have since had it confirmed that the VW disc is not TMC enabled which is very annoying as it is mentioned in the manual and nowhere in the brochure does it say it is not standard on the GTI. Bar stewards We should buy one copy between us and make multiple copies to get our own back on the feckers!
SamD
What is TMC then?
EthanAllenCord
Recently picked my new GTI (with sat nav), and have been wondering why the TMC icon is greyed out. Pretty annoyed now that I know why! I've had a look on the Tele Atlas/Navshop website but can't find any Nav CDs for the Sat Nav in the Mk5 Golf. Anyone point me to the right place please? EthanAllenCord
Sorry to ignore you Sam, TMC is 'Traffic Message Channel', I grabbed this from a TMC website: "The Traffic Message Channel (TMC) is a specific application of the FM Radio Data System (RDS) used for broadcasting real-time traffic and weather information. Data messages are received silently and decoded by a TMC-equipped car radio or navigation system". The Sat Nav system can use this information to alter your journey on the fly to avoid traffic problems, in theory

aswall
Ordered the TMC disc and it arrived today. Not only does TMC work a treat now (found 2 jams in Yorkshire straight away) but my house, which is on a fairly new estate, has now appeared along with it's correct postcode so the map data must be updated. It is marked "2005" as opposed to "2004-2005" as the original one.
