mattcony
I've been looking at Carbon Fiber bonnets across the pond on Vortex, there cheap as chips over there and very well made. The weight savings on the front end is quite considerable and i'm sure would help a lot with handling on the R. Having a scan again today someone has now done a painted version in blue and it just looks awesome !!! For some Big high Rez pictures click here Vortex Thread Cheers Matt
mb
Not sure if teh colour "match" would concern me - have seen them on black cars and then they look hard as nails - although a fully painted bonnet that looked standard would be really cool (ala S3 with an alluminium bonnet)
helfinger
if your thinking of getting one brought over let me know as i think i will have one. A good idea to save some weight.....
Dan32
Why do they have to have bonnet pins fitted though?
Dan32
www.eurogearusa.com have them listed (unpainted of course) at $500 for standard, $550 for un-notched for badgeless grills and a 'boser' (badboy) version. Paint on top of that would be a fortune though.
FiftyPence
Id be very interested in a CF bonnet too, after all i have a black R which would look good with it. But what do you do with the standard bonnet, its not exactly small. Admittedly a DBP R looks good with a CF bonnet too as it adds some contrast. Bonnet pins are added in some cases because the CF bonnet cannot accept the front metal prong which clips onto the latch I or because the owners prefer bonnet pins I believe. I could be wrong though
Dan32
On the link to vortex someone had replied saying he fitted pins because he was getting hairline cracks somewhere on the bonnet. Wondered why. Assumed it was because bonnet was flexible and so at high speed could bend enough to cause cracking of clear coat.

Dan32
20lbs according to the thread on vortex. Website claims half the stock bonnet weight.
FiftyPence
I thought this too and I guess it weighs aboutb the same as a battery does, which if you were tracking your car would be worthwhile.

[/ QUOTE ] It's less than 10kgs saving isn't it? [/ QUOTE ] 10.4 kg saving on the bonnet and they also fit Braille batterys which are a much smaller but yet very high capacity and that saves 12.2kg. Combined thats going to remove almost 23kg in weight fron the front end, I think that will have quite an effect on the front end handling Cheers Matt
FiftyPence
Im not too good at how much people weigh but 23kg is the same as 23 bags of sugar which seems about as much as a small child so taking that off the front of your car by the engine can only be a good thing
