Thorburn
I've been looking at buying a Tom Tom Go 700 but I've realised the main thing I'm really after is speed camera warnings, satnav is simply a bonus, whats more talking to Danksy yesterday it sounds like its not always that good at getting you where you want to go! So what I'm wondering is how good is the speed camera warnings on something like a Tom Tom, would I be better served by a Road Angel or similar? NeilB
CheckPOInt, TomTom 3 and the database from PocketGPS have kept my licence points free so far.
Snail
JT, have you got a PDA? if so, just get the GPS attachment, load something like Tomtom onto it, bobs your uncle, you have GPS and speed camera detection (not that you need it in the MX5 ) If not, how about this PDA, GPS, SAT Nav, all for £230. nikw
A PDA/TomTom/CheckPoint combo is cheaper (i.e. lower purchase cost plus no subscription) than any of the dedicated camera warning units I've seen thus far, also does navigation and it's a PDA too (bonus)! Your local Aldi or Kwik Save probably has a Medion branded Windows Mobile-based all-in-one unit for £240 or less. This uses a version of Navigon Navigator 4 which will work with camera warning software as explained here. I've been down this route already with TomTom 3 & 5 installed on an Aldi-sourced Medion (Mitac Mio168 clone), so PM me if you want anything
Scotty
TomTom is really good. Of course there may be the occasional issue where it takes you a strange route (I've only had 1 in the last 12 months) but it does the job very well. I went all over Europe with it and it only let me know around Geneva but there was some weird road works. In conclusion - ignore Danksy!
PetrolDave
I have a Cyclops for speed camera warnings (I used to have a Road Angel until some lowlife smashed my passenger windows and helped themselves to it), and I've fitted an Audi RNS-E for sat nav (replaced my Symphony II Radio/CD/Cassette). I've also got a Navman ICN650 on which the PocketGPS database is loaded. I just wish there was a way of loading the PocketGPS database onto the RNS-E ...... Anyone?
