Ari
Fancied a combined DVD recorder and VCR for a while now. Got stacks of old stuff on video I'd like to put to DVD, plus be nice to have a DVD recorder anyway for "taping" stuff off the TV instead of clumsy old VHS. Anyway, I see that the price of combination units has dropped to under £200 so might go for it. Example - Deawoo unit at Comet I figure the advantage of a combination unit (rather than just a DVD recorder in addition to my current VCR) is, less boxes under the TV (no room for anything else anyway with VCR and Surround sound DVD player under there) plus less wiring hassle and probably easier to do VHS to DVD recordings as no doubt it'll be set up to make this easy. Any thoughts on this, and on what are the best/best value ones to go for?
Omi
Spend the money on a decent DVDR, SCART the VCR in and copy any stuff across, then put the VCR and the rest of the tapes in the loft.
Gren
Too right. Do away with those tapes ASAP
Ari
My thinking though, is that if I got a combination unit, I would still retain the ability to play VHS if I wished. I do have some old films on VHS for example (although I suppose I could just copy them to DVD too). And no, not that sort of film (although now I think about it, I think I have got some on VHS somewhere... )
