RedRobin
I expect everyone is fed up with hearing me ranting about why my GTI hasn't arrived yet....At last I can stop my ranting and agony of waiting! The worst aspect wasn't my impatience in waiting but about not being fully informed of tracking progress between German and UK docksides....It simply lets down VW's whole effort and I shall be politely telling them so for the sake of future and current GTI buyers. The North Sea really is a deep unknown! For all those still waiting: it IS worth the wait! As your GTI is given birth you begin to experience that the motor you will soon (-ish!) drive will be very special and personal. Am I getting sickeningly sentimental? Well, Tough !! to anyone who thinks so!! This forum has been invaluable and I REALLY mean that! I wish I had discovered it earlier. Does my frequency here soon end? Depends on the other stuff going on in my life but I reckon I'm probably now as addicted as the rest of you b4stards!! THANKYOU all you guys for help and (emotional??) support. sburke1
Best of luck with it Robin. Don't delay with pictures! (including the miltek exhaust- pics from awesome website look great)
RedRobin
Cheers! I'll keep you posted. I won't be fitting the Milltek Quads for a few weeks....They need to have a suitable rear valance (Abt being recommended by Awesome) but I don't like the Abt side valances as much as the Caractere sides which aren't available immediately. Then I might go the whole hog bodywise and fit an Abt front spoiler. Others would doubtless spend the same dosh on remapping etc but a 58yo like me expects to be satisfied with just what the Milltek exhaust will add to performance. The bodyshop I've found suggested fitting body parts as delivered unprimed to check it all fits and then removing for painting before refitting. Such thinking has convinced me that they are pro. Also I'll be able to report here what differences from standard that the Milltek makes. Thanks for your good wishes
WhiteHArtMart
Glad to hear of the imminent arrival - just a shame mine isn't even ordered yet - I know I've got at least a 5 month wait!! Still - enjoy the motor - looking forward to the photos!
Simonl
WhiteHart, phone around. There are dealers that can get you a GTI in 12 weeks
RedRobin
....I just can't understand why you've got a 5 month wait! Mine was stuck dockside and has still only taken just under two and a half months. If I were you I'd really shop around VW dealers (not confident about non authorised VW stealers) and even contact VW UK. Heck, you are a valued sales potential at this stage. Unless, of course, the 5 month wait suits you for other reasons such as cashflow or whatever. Have you ordered it with the dealer and he hasn't passed on the order to VW yet? RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] Remember red cars are always faster!! [/ QUOTE ] ....Careful!! You'll start a red hot flaming debate! Schumi would agree too! As a daddy I won't be as fast as some of the guys here (some being young enough to be my children!....Hey! Have you met yer dad?). Still my red hot number plates should be enough to add another 10bhp Catch you soon, (Red)Robin
RedRobin
A big thankyou, jamiey. Duh! I had a senior moment and didn't think about having a peek. Thanks to you I've just arranged to peek on Friday morning while she's in prep. Forgive me if I've missed it in all my excitement but how long you got to wait now? jamiey
Well I only ordered on Sunday but the dealer quoted beginning Novermber... With all the stories of 5 - 6 month wait I'm reserving judgement on when it'll arrive until I get a build week. Silly to be getting impatient already isn't it. RedRobin
Thankyou Tian. I just checked out your gallery pix....Very unpretentious (apart from the number plate! ) and stylish motor. Particularly like the instrumentation....elegantly functional without gimmicks.

RedRobin
How's this for stealer-dealer service and tracking?....Having received a 'kicking' from me and threats to report to VW UK over totally losing track of my beloved intended's journey to me across the water from Deutschland, my dealer phoned me just now to tell me that the car transporter had just driven past his window with my red GTI on board and would be entering her wedding preparation for me immediately. Forget Champagne!....We'll be drinking Optimax!! So ends this morning's useless bit of information!

[/ QUOTE ] November isn't to bad compared to some of us overseas. Here in Australia it has now moved out to March/April 2006 for a new order I managed to find a Black one with delivery late September / early October, but it came with a sunroof. I only wanted to add the DSG to the standard Australian specs, but after my test drive experiences I paid for the one with the sunroof (even though I didn't want one) just to get the car 5 - 6 months earlier
RedRobin
Welcome jamiey from Oz.... My temporary standard Golf Mk4 has a sunroof (glass). I hardly ever opened it fully but, except for motorway driving, I always had the back flipped up open....Excellent ventilation (I hate aircon!). My new GTI has a glass sunroof because I really wanted it and I would have even rejected my order if they had forgotten it!

Saturday Night... Mostly clear. Lows around 50. Light and variable winds. Sunday... Mostly sunny in the morning...Then becoming partly sunny. Highs around 80. Southeast winds around 5 mph...Becoming southwest in the afternoon. Sunday Night... Partly cloudy in the evening...Then clearing. Not as cool with lows around 60. Looking good
Melchior
Hi RedRobin. Not long now. I was asked if I wanted to delay the delivery of mine to get the new 55 registration in September but I could't wait any longer and picked it up Wednesday, and boy was it worth the wait. Enjoy your car! Look forward to hearing your experiences.
RedRobin
Hi Melchior....I've seen your nice pix of your new blue beloved I momentarily went through the same about 55 plates....I had the option of either VW05 RED or VW55 RED and fancied the look of the 55 but, like you, no way could I wait any longer!! I'm not focussed on resale values....I have experienced too much death around me not to know that life is for living....Now!! (That doesn't mean I'm irresponsible but, let's face it, we are all in the same queue. As Billy Connolly says he wants on his gravestone: "Jesus Christ! Is it that time already?!"....I often think those words when I find myself in here half the day!!)....I digress - So, what's new? Catch up with you soon
