lenny
Hi guys.. I need a little guidance I have always been a big swissol fan.. Using their concours wax on my R32. I was looking at the serious performance web site and would like to try some of their products... (they seem much cheaper!) So this is what I was thinking of getting... 1) Meguiar's Cordless Orbital Buffer 2) Meguiar's SOFTBUFF™ Cutting Pad 3) Meguiar's SOFTBUFF™ Finishing Pad 4) Poorboys - SSR2.5 – Medium Abrasive 5) Poorboys - SSR1 - Light Abrasive 6) P21-S Concours Look Carnauba Paste Wax 7) Poorboy’s EX-P These products are to used on a reflex silver car... Would I use the P21 before a couple of coats of EX-P??? Cheers for the advice
apreading
First off I think the consensus is that the cordless buffer is totally inadequate for abrasive polishing - just not enough power. Really the best option is to get a Porter Cable which you have to buy from the states and convert to UK power. TomK and I have just got one from Autopia - they mark goods in a Customs friendly way, so with the dollar conversion this isnt much more than the megs cordless, and arrived within 3 days of ordering. You will then need something like this transformer and this plug plus maybe this extension lead which gets you free postage. The whole lot will add up to £180 or so I guess including pads to get you started. The megs cordless is probably fine for applying waxes etc and will make this job a little easier than by hand, but I doubt you will get the benefit of the SSRs using it. If you do order from Autopia then you may want to get some more products at the same time - they are probably cheaper than buying in the UK. The products you have chosen seem pretty good according to opinion (I wont be testing them out for another week or so, but they are close to what I have chosen, although I went for Nattys blue rather than P21S). EX-P then wax I believe. Keep us up to date on your progress!
malagus
myself I would use a farecla cutting compound. G3 or G7, using a gmop, or use a hand compound and save on the buffer. Reflex silver is not a bad colour to cut, so I would use a hand compound, then maybe top it off with a machine glaze. talk to clean_image about it. Andy_PC
If you're as into cleaning as it sounds, skip the buffer (or if you must, buy from C&S as you get a discount!) and try some Poorboys polishes, sealants & waxes and I'd personally suggest either P21S or Souveran. EXP under wax - always use your wax as last step product for that bling effect. HTH

malagus
Ideally, you could go to a bodyshop and use a desoutter air buffer - those things rock, plus they are light enough to manipulate. if you can get to one and use the stuff for free do. if not, G7 liquid compound, TOP glaze, then a thick layer of pure carnauba. Being a metal finish it shouldn't need too much attention to detail.
