AZURES3
Guys There has been lots of talk about the new R36 and S3 with 280 BHP but many people disputed this engine configuration. See link below, its on it's way. 3.6 L AZ
Cupramax
All that proves is that the engine exists... it does however mean its feasible as the new Passat is based on a streched Golf platform and i believe the engine bay is the same as the Golf. Simonl
Although in my heart of hearts, i know it's going to be a 3.6 in the S3, i hope it's not... will it realy be that much different to a 3.2 (too front heavy etc) It just doesn't get me excited as much as a 2.0T pushing out 280bhp... although lag would be a bitch on that! I know it's only speculation, but would a 30bhp increase really be noticable, considering the extra weight of a 3.
harminder
With a 3.6 I would be hoping on figures just over 300 bhp.. But then again that might make it just as quick as the S4!!
Wallachie
I'm hopeful that the new S3 will have a more powerful version of the 2.0T! I think a big heavy V6 could ruin the car's handling - unless they change the Quattro system to a 60/40 split like the latest S4 I just wish Audi or someone would release some details on it! [/ QUOTE ] Well to be honest, the 3.2 aint that far off. And the old S3 could have given the 2.7T S4 a good run for it's money. I think they have to make the S3 a sub 6" car to justify the enourmous price tag.... and lets not forget BMW's rumored M1 (a 3.5 Turbo)

What sort of power is that likely to churn out....bearing in mind that M power always gets more than 100 bhp per litre!!
Wallachie
I very much doubt that the M1 will have a turbo, when was the last time BMW produced an M car with a turbo?

[/ QUOTE ] I agree, thinking about it this article makes more sense. A 135iT developed by the M team, but not an M branded car. Like you said, it would go against M tradition, high revving NA engines. Anyway 330hp, 0-60 in 5secs, and enough room for the kiddies-can't be bad! http://autoblog.com/entry/1234000733048825
