GTi Tyres

Basically Auto Express did a track survey of the 20 top tyre manufacturers- apperantly they do this every year. A lot of the tests involved wet conditions such as braking, aquaplaning, wet cornering, curved aquaplaninng as well as standard dry braking and interestingly, in-car noise shocked.gif

They scored a specialist wet tyre manufacturer called Vredestein(www.vredistein.com) as top. Conti's came third with Bridgestone sixth. Dunlop were ninth. Luckily VW have steered clear of Michelin who came a very convincing 16th.

Found the article quite interesting as tyre choice wasn't something I really thought much about up to this point. However, with the British climate quite unpredictable (and our Irish weather is very similar to ye guys) wet tyres may be a consideration. I know a friend of mine who fitted them to his 140bhp TDi and has been very satisfied to them. He found the braking distance in wet weather to be much improved.

....That's particularly interesting. When I was a lot younger I used to race bikes (pedal cycles), as a Time Triallist....The point is that the majority of riders considered Continentals and Vredistein as the best tyres. So it seems that their good reputation is very longstanding. Contis were the most popular of the two.
