Passat 115 PD TDI, Turbo problem sorted, for now!

Just to let everyone know how grateful I am for this forum. Have a Passat 115 PD TDI, it's been sluggish off the mark lately - no turbo boost until 2000 RPM and then a flat spot at about 3500. It didn't go into limp mode. Having read all that everyone else has posted and tinkered about for weeks I got to thinking that the Air Mass Module is the only control in the system that has a progressive effect (rather than everything else that seems to be either on or off i.e. switchy, solenoid type stuff). Finally bit the bullet and tried one (£88.24 Exchange unit from main dealer that I fitted on their forecourt!) and bingo. Had the car from 45K now on 78K and it's never driven better, touch wood!

Also, last year I did have a problem with it going into limp mode. Had the main dealer run around, horrendous quotes etc but persisted with it myself and found a pin hole in one of the many vacuum hoses - £1.50 for 3 metres of vacuum hose from my local factors (2.8 metres as spare!) and fixed it.

As an aside, VAG seem to have many problems with Diesels and Turbos, you would think that they would do the honourable thing and do the diagnostics for nothing especially as you can download the software for free and buy your own lead for fifty quid and another thing, why are their labour rates so high? They say it's overheads but whatever main dealer you go to there seem to be two mechanics and a dozen sales/marketing personnel (hangers on) why do we have to pay for all their wages too? It's fu**in' annoying - I won't be buying another VW. Had Toyotas mainly before this and their customer service is in a different league.

Whilst I am here, does anyone know why the 115 has a cam belt change period of 40K rather then 60K that all the other Diesels seem to be?
