cruiser647
One of the Sales reps for my firm, (who I know very well) has a diesel X5. It has the trusty 3l straight 6 engine, the Sports pack and the 6 spd auto?? Now, he likes the car BUT there is a technical fault with it. It hesitates when he pulls away and then shoots off. Drives fine thereafter, until the next junction/roundabout. This is dangerous for when pulling out of a junction. It has been in MANY times to BMW, and had allsorts of software/firmware updates, swapping of bits. IIRC even the gearbox. Finally, BMW and an independant engineer have confirmed that it is not on and should/needs to be changed. However, they are still phaffing about. Is anybody else having or has had this problem? If so, what happened - still got the vehicle OR did they swap it OR did you reject it somehow? He has had numerous faxes/emails from BMW telling him the car is faulty. I'll post some later as he is now hacked off with it. Cheers for your help!
fignon21
I live over here in the States, and we don't have the diesel version over here (bummer). We do, however, have a "lemon law" for people who purchase a car that has obvious glitches in it that cannot be fixed after the dealer has made a good faith effort to rectify the problem. From what I read about your buddy's car, it seems his glitch could end up in a serious accident, and the dealer has really worked with him on it and can't fix it. Not only that, but he's probably got a significant investment at stake with that X5. I would pursue having them replace the car with a new one, as obviously there is something really wrong with the one he got. Have him check and see if there is any consumer protection out there for him. Maybe even have an attorney draw up a letter - the expense for this is far outweighed by your friend's investment. I don't really like getting legal counsel involved since it can sour things from there on out, but sometimes a letter from an attorney can go a long way. Just a friendly explanation of the legal protections available.

thraxtos
Whizzer - Lets talk about this - I think we can help each other here - It's obviously not just a one off. Last week, my Wife & Child were almost T-boned at a junction by a truck - She pulled out with plenty of space, but the wretched thing did it's normal and hesitated - Thankfully it decided to scream off just in time. I really do think this is a serious fault that can't and shouldn't be ignored ... Plse contact me
audia3
Don't know if it'll help, but I had a E65 730D Sport 2003, damn thing did exactly the same so it went in to BMW..... they couldn't find anything wrong with it (!!!) as it didn't do it everytime and said no faults were stored on the computer. didn't bother complaining, just sold the car.
