mojo7676
Thanks for that. Can you tell me if this shows up through VAG COM? Also, where is said solenoid, how easy is it to replace and any idea about costs? cheers. mojo
mulkbear
VAG COM is the work of the devil (are they trying to put me out of a job) The solenoid is mounted above the boot catch (remove the rear wiper motor cover) it is white (see pic) you can test it by supplying it with 12V+, I think they are around the £18 mark. mojo7676
thanks for the tips - where's the pic, though? not sure what to make of that vag com stuff. leads from ebay for about £20 - am seriously considering it but really don't want to get into all that... life's too short. mojo7676
The solenoid''s been checked and is fine, apparently. However, there is no 'live' going to it for some reason. Any suggestions?
mulkbear
Check the wiring loom that runs between the car and the boot lid (there should be a rubber boot with wire's running through it check to see if there is any broken wires). If there is no broken wire's, it could possably be a remote but i am unsure!
mojo7676
Will check that; i imagine this is all fairly visible (the rubber boot that kind of connects the body to the hatch, electrically speaking). The remote - do you mean the fob/alarm remote or something else?
mulkbear
the fob remote but if you have two that will rule out the fob
mojo7676
Checked inside the rubber boot and everything seems fine as does the solenoid. Appears there's no live going to it which i find a bit strange. any particular fuses/relays/?? that might be the cause. Does the thing need a new wiring loom or is there some way of 'taking' or feeding a live to the solenoid? any suggestions...

Wobby
Hi, Dont you know fuse numbers mulkbear? I thought you would know which ones to look for.
Wobby
Going to try and help, but i dont know much on this one!! Does the Golf have a similar set up to the Passat2001? with a keylock on the boot that can go in 2 locking positions? Mine wouldn't let me into the boot on central locking.I altered the position of the key and still doesn't let me in when i unlock the doors, but does unluck if i press the middle button on the key. Hopefully makes sense. When unlocking the boot i have to hold the remote button down until the lights flash, seems 1 sec or maybe 2 sec! I cant see it being a fuse, its got to be wiring if the solenoid works when a seperate power source is applied to it. RobK
mulkbear
[ QUOTE ] Hi, Dont you know fuse numbers mulkbear? I thought you would know which ones to look for. [/ QUOTE ] I did not fuse No ,plus i don't think it will be a fuse as the window motors run of the same power supply And i would have to start with wiring checks ,etc and it is a bit hard to direct someone how to do it and if i tell him somethink wrong and he back feeds a control unit (£100+)
