Am I mad?

O.K., I know this is hardly the place for an unbiased opinion regarding GTi's, but....

My daily driver is an Audi A4 Avant 2.5TDi Quattro Sport. I am seriously considering changing for a new GTi.

The Audi is classier, cheaper to insure, cheaper to run, roomier, higher spec, more toys, probably just as fast real road A-B, and I would need to go into more debt to to it. After all, the Audi was over 30K new and is a great car.

Did I just manage to talk myself out of it? suicide.gif

Si.

I'm having the same dilema simkna, i've got a 3.2Q A3 which cost over 27k.

If the GTI was out when i got my A3, i would have got that instead. My Audi is just sooo much better built, but the GTI is more fun... oh i dunno!!!smashfreakB.gif

But people have traded in Porsches for GTI's. How old is your A4?

I'm worried about ordering, and then massively changing my mind in the 5 months it takes to get here!

I previously owned a 2001 A4. Fantastic car but the one major drawback for be was the lack of rear seat legroom. I'm 6'3" and in the A4 had to have the seat all the way back and as such there wasn't enough room to seat a passenger behind me. Also the door pillar where the seatbelt is mounted obstructed my sideways view and the seatbelt was presented infront of me an cut across my chest.

So for me in terms of accomodation the GTi is more practical.

I've owned a fair amount of metal in the last few years including the A4, Mini Cooper S and a 328Ci. IMHO if you did take the decision to go for the GTi although you would loose the obvious load lugging space of the Avant, you wouldn't be dissapointed.
