Soapsuds
Wicked!! I love those old Celicas - there are loads of them still flying around in Aussie!! Most of them rotted to death over here though - shame! Classic Jap stuff is great..... (yes, i am biased!) Good find!

activa
[ QUOTE ] you lucky git!!! Great car aint they!? Did it rust to death then....?? [/ QUOTE ] No it didn't actually-although I'm sure it would have, had I kept it any period of time. My friend fell in love with it and I sold it to him 2 weeks later for 5 times what I paid for it. By this time the clutch was slipping and in those days cars were so easy to pick up cheap we never bothered doing repairs like that, just sold 'em on! My mate loved it-got a clutch fitted and owned it for near on 2 years. After that,I don't have a clue what happened to it. That was just one of the many "unusual" cars that I once owned. Couple of narrow body Starions(ring a bell?),Dolly Sprints,Strada Abarth,Celica ST 1.6,3 Scirroco Storm MK.1's and 2 MK.2's,5 MK.1 Golf Gti's,Sapporo turbo(pillarless-when did you last see one of those),914 Targa in yellow, totally of topic but the list goes on..... Soapsuds
[ QUOTE ] Couple of narrow body Starions (ring a bell?) [/ QUOTE ] good man!!! How did you find them? Good i presume seeing as you had 2.... Did you have the intercooled or non-intercooled ones? [ QUOTE ] Scirroco Storm MK.1's and 2 MK.2's [/ QUOTE ] Great cars!!! Collectable now and mega rare! Didnt like the angular dash thought!! [ QUOTE ] 5 MK.1 Golf Gti's [/ QUOTE ] Awesome vehicle and appreciating in value in todays market..... [ QUOTE ] Sapporo turbo(pillarless-when did you last see one of those) [/ QUOTE ] When i was last in Aussue - few years back. Never seen one over here!! They were a big brutal beast too! Anything else of interest!?? PS - let me know if you ever fancy a blast in my Starion
activa
[ QUOTE ] good man!!! How did you find them? Good i presume seeing as you had 2.... Did you have the intercooled or non-intercooled ones?[ QUOTE ] I thought they were great. They were both intercooled,as I remember my knowledgable pal at the time(same guy that also made me want a 44 turbo and he wasn't wrong)told me they HAD to be,O.K then!!! They were rot boxes though it has to be said but my first taste of turbo'd tail-out fun! The Sapporo my Mrs. absolutely loved driving and didn't want me to get rid of it but it was just going too rusty in the wrong places and I think it's probably been scrapped many years ago. I always promised myself a wide-arch Starion but for some reason never got round to owning one.Maybe 'cos when I was looking all the ones available were crappy 2.6 Yankmobiles, yukkkk! As for other interesting cars, well there was a GTV6,that was a cool car back in the day, loads of Cloverleaf Suds,Rover P6 with leather,Fiat 600,Maestro Turbo,5 CRX's inc. one V-Tec and a 12 valve,Renault 25 V6 Turbo,Jag V12 Vanden Plas,Capri 3ltr E MK.1,Granny V6 Coupe...... if I sat here long enough the list would go on forever. When I look back I still can't believe the prices people used to charge us for these cars.Pennies! BTW I do fancy a blast in your Mitsu but you're just a bit far away, cheers anyway! Soapsuds
Forgive me being up front, but how old are you?? Thats a lot of cars. I am on my 12th car in 11 years of motoring...... im 28. You have a good varied list of motors there. I fancied a 944 Turbo instead of the Starion but funds would not permit... Still very much like them! Nearly bought a 924 Turbo for restoration, but decided against it (late model Turbo). You are right about the Starions being rust buckets! Mine is in amazing condition - 1 spot of rust on the rear nearside arch that is just going through. Will get that sorted before winter and then waxoyl away! I am lucky to have one of the last 2.0 Turbo Widebodys made - in standard form, they are great! Handful in the wet though, but i tend to leave mine alone in the wet (not because of that!)..... The LSD is great for going around bends and roundabouts sideways in a controlled fashion!

I am on my 12th car in 11 years of motoring...... im 28. [/ QUOTE ] I'm 36 and have a had an unbelievable amount of cars. There were times I would own 5 or 6 or more at once. Been into cars since school and all my mates were the same,so when we were 17 it was buy whatever you could as cheap as you could and have max fun! Because of that it meant that we wouldn't turn a car down just 'cos we had one already,we'd simply buy that one too! Delta HF Turbo,Beta Spyder,Beta HPE,MK.1 Escort Mexico,Audi 100(the big-arse square one),Escort MK.1 rally car with works arches(I remember that being £220 out of my local paper-see what I mean!)..... I could go on but don't wanna bore everyone s**tless! Sounds like your Starions one of the few nice ones left, must be an appreciating asset, good luck to ya! Soapsuds
Mk1 Mexico!!! FFS - they are worth a bomb now!!!! Yep, my Starion is my investment - it cost me £900 at the start of the year, spent about £250 on it (roughly...), lots of my own time and effort and its probably worth about £2000 - £2500 now. It needs a new front bumper, a bare matal respray and it will be mint and worth about £3500. My plan is to keep it for a minimum of 10 years, but more likely 15..... Depends if i get the 993 Turbo one day!

Soapsuds
tell me about it!! I could have one tomorrow if i could change my career and stop driving 35K miles per annum, work from home and sell the Avant tractor! Dream on, eh!
MattR32
Good plan on NOT getting a 924 turbo - Dad had two and they were about as fast as a glacier and looked nasty. The 928 afterwards was much better.

Soapsuds
Starions are famous (in-famous!) for catching fire too - fuel pisses out the seals in the inlet manifold and bang! Hence the big fat fire extinguisher i have in the front passenger footwell!! 50 mins to go till i pick her up for the weekend!!!

Oh, and the last one i bought was £70 and that had 2 months tax as well Ok, OK, i'll get my coat........... .
