Guys

I am selling my A4Cab in a couple of months, specification below. What do you reckon it is worth for private sale. One dealer made an offer to buy the car over the phone for £28K but said he may go higher if it is mint, which it is. It cost just shy of £33k new last September, so its 8 months old.

A4 Cabriolet 3.0

Metallic Silver

Extras:-

Sports Pack.

Black Leather.

Interior Light pack.

Heated Seats.

Electric Seats.

BOSE stereo.

6CD in the glovebox.

Coolbox in the glovebox.

Wind deflector.

Electric heated & folding door mirrors.

Acoustic Parking aid.

Obviously if any one is interested too send me a PM tongue.gif

Az, wouldn't really like to say but the dealer is probably going to sell it for another couple of thousand on top so around the £30-£31K which is probably about right. It depends whether u want to take the easy option of going to a dealer or selling it privately in which case you could ask for the £31K mark...

Az,

Sounds a fair price to me. You've got to consider that you would certainly have to say that the VAT portion of any new car effectively goes up in smoke the minute you drive it away from the dealer. On a £33k car this amounts to £5775 taking the value of your car below the £28k offered.

You could argue that the Cab is a desirable car and a recent model so it should be worth more but do you really want the hassle of tyre kickers coming round to thrash your car, picking fault with it then making a derisory offer? At the sort of money you need for the car most private buyers want the security of buying from a main dealer. Even if you do shake hands on a deal with a private buyer they may well need to sort out finance etc and it could be some time before you get the cash at all. I'd try a couple more dealers to benchmark the offer that you've been given then sell the car to the highest bidding dealer and insist on a BACS money transfer into your bank account. That's what I'm doing with my X5 and the difference in dealer buy in prices is shocking.

The "stealer" I'm buying my Z4 from offered £27.5k on my mint X5 as a trade in. The dealer I'm selling it to who is about 35 miles from the other offered £30.5k! They're both BMW main dealers so go figure that out.

A £5K drop on a £33K car is very good news I'd say, especially as he said he might up it when he sees it!

Given the recent thread full of people losing £10K on S3's and £9K on Boxsters in under a year I'd say you've got a result there!

Fair comment, easy to be blase...

Mind you, was reading in autocar once about a bloke that bought a £22.5K Mundeno ST220 and needed to get shot after 6 months. Would you believe an over £10K loss!!? EEK2.GIF

£10K to own a Mundeno for 1/2 a year.....!! smashfreakB.gif

You could give Fontain in Iver a call as they offered me way more than any Audi dealer on an A6 I had last year, in the end he was within a grand of what I'd have got privately and the deal was all done in a week.

Cheers

Neil

AZ - the £9k drop Ari refers to is on my Boxster - but the story is more interesting than that. I took the car back to the supplying dealer (it was less than a year old) and they offered me £31k. I laughed, then cried. Anyway I started to phone around some Porsche 'used' specialists to see what they would offer, and eventually I got offered £33k over the phone, without him even viewing the car. We did the deal there and then and he said "look I'm down in Bristol and I've sold the car to a dealer near you in East London. Would you mind delivering directly?" ... yep yep yep you can guess the rest. Brilliant huh?!! You should have seen the dealer's face when I dropped the car off.

Anyway if I can find this guy's number I'll give it to you. I am sure he dealt in Audi too. He told me afterwards that he made £250 simply by broking the car to a dealer. Not a lot of money, but not bad for a phone call.
