Soapsuds
Yes, yet another small engined, debadged bag of trying to race me down a bypass! Surprisingly, this one WASNT a coupe! He was sat behind a crane on the inside lane and we were all passing him. He wasnt trying to get out, so no one let him out (he drives a 3 series FFS!). Got the hump after about 10 cars (inc. me) had paseed and stepped out and planted it. I was pootling along at 70 and he raced past me to the next roundabout....... So.... (childish i know but i had learners and tractors to contend with just 5 mins before) i outbraked him into the r'bout, which upset him and then took off with lots of understeer (was in the Avant Tractor - no tuning box in it) on turbo and blew him away. He caught up, but bottled it before the next r'bout - i late (very) braked again and slipped in through a gap in the traffic - he got stuck. Twat! See, if he has badged 330ci / 330d / similar, i would have never bothered..... WHY do they do it!??? Made my lunch hour drive though.....

NewNiceMrMe
There could actually be a number of very good reasons for even a basic 3-series being debadged. For example, our fleet cars are debadged - as standard. Why? Because many years ago the higher end models with appropriate designation were being stolen. Our insurers recommending debadging all cars with an option to do so - and thefts dropped. However, debadging to a fleet supplier means debadging ANYTHING - so even a 318i would be debadged. You will always get someone who doesn't want their neighbours/other road users to know it's a basic model - but so what? That's their sorry little problem as anyone who notices it is debadged is probably going to know enough about cars to know it's a low-end model anyway (if it is). Many owners might have had badges forced off/nicked in the past too - it has been known, maybe they don't want the same problem again? You're probably right that he'd debadged it to hide the low end spec and maybe he was a bit of a dick...but out braking and racing a 318i/316i on the public roads isn't exactly the greatest claim to fame either though is it....? Surely it's easier just to sit back and laugh at their little games? Nothing p1sses them off more.

[/ QUOTE ] Very true indeed - its just i was late for work, got stuck behind numerous tractors and learner drivers - you know how it is sometimes!!! Christ - i cant talk eh! I've got a diesel tractor!!! If only i had a 645...... I'll consider myself told..... PS - thanks for the debadged info - didnt know that!!
