Revo 5 Hour Trial!

Well... This was my second GTI International visit and thought in general it was very good... I was there for both days, and gained quite a few ideas for my car... wink.gif The runways on the exit's were great fun!

I saw the best golf I have ever seen on AmD's stand on Saturday... the black one (MRK IV) I thought it was awesome!! 350bhp and loved the whole look of it! grin.gif

Unfortunately I coudn't find anyone from Tyresmoke at all, which was a shame as I would have liked to have met up...

So yesterday morning I visited the forge stand and thought to myself... I could get myself some free power here... so I asked... and they did! sekret.gif

Gave me a forge stand pass and drove up to the stand entrances (where Amd's stand was.) 15 minutes with a laptop and my A3 was done...

Well... being the standard low boost program and knowing that there is more to come (high boot optimax program) I can't believe how much difference it makes already!! floor it in first and the Toyo's struggle to grip and whip it into second and it just pulls to 6k at an awesome rate...

Did some 0-60 sprints and got 6.5's which I was very pleased about!

I still have about an hour and half or so left and I cant wait to give it another blast tonight... bloody excellent!!

I think you're refering to the Ben Con-rod someone got, someone stated that another S3 suffered the same but it wasn't chipped so I don't think it's safe to say that the reason the con-rod bent was soley due to the extra power.

Also we are talking about a different engine here, the 1.8T in the A3 is very well tested, loads of people have modified it with no ill effects. When you chip an engine you have to be aware of all the risks, I think a bent con rod is probably not normal though.

this is only the low boost program and only lasts 5 hours, so I think I should be ok... tongue.gif

I can't see it being a major problem to be honest... I think its just unlucky... how many other tunes out there chip cars on a daily basis, and how many of them do we hear have problems... Not many.

Cars are going to break... its inevitable, the chip does enhance this, but doubt the Revo remap alone is to blame for a 'few' mishaps which we have heard about...

It's always a case of who touched it last. I worked in IT, if I walked passed a machine and it crashed it was my fault.

Quite often a user would say "my computer is too slow" I'd then give it the once over, they'd be happy that it was then faster, the next day it would crash and the blame would come my way. I think this is probably the same thing.

I have heard of another two revo cars that have blown up and four that have had problems, It doesn't fill me full of confidence, I was going to post a link to the revo blown up cars but it appears the sponsors have pulled rank and had the posts removed.

I see on another site that even after the five hour trial someone can see your car has been chipped at some time.

I had a long chat with Mitch on Saturday and the only cars that have blown up are there own..

And they do it on purpose.. they keep increasing the boostr until it goes bang.. that way they can build in safe limits and also find out which components goes first.. bascially it's R&D

This makes me laugh.....

1. Things break

2. Strain them more, and they are more likely to break

3. I have been running beta Revo software for a few months, and have had no side effects.

I suppose the emphasis from some is to find fault with the Revo offering and suddenly any issue which is vaguely related to Revo software (or not even!!) is used to soil the Revo name.

Pray tell - Please post links to these stories. And while you're at it, post some stories related to other tuners.... blush.gif

Yep, with our 'stand' being so far away from everything else, there was little inclination to hang around. Also, there was no stand identification so, unless you recognised the cars, you wouldn't have found it. The most likely place to meet TS members would have been the AS.net stand in the main area. I was only there on Sunday - I guess there must have been more members around on the Saturday, but since PH seems to have upset so many ppl, many didn't (or weren't allowed to) turn up on Sunday.

There were strong rumours that LupoBabe was around, I would have liked to say 'Hi', but didn't get to find her.

But to all the ppl I did meet - thanks (especially Crash, who provided somewhere for me to sleep).

I reguarly trawl all Audi related sites and have not heard of anything except a bent con rod in a car with no oil which happended to be REVO'd (still not sure how a bent con rod can occur and the car still be driveable but thats a different story)

TBH It pees me off the anti REVO crap that gets spouted with no evidence whatsoever. Didnt a turbo go on Rob Ks AMD chipped S4, for example??? must of been an AMD dodgy chip - no of course not but it happens.

I agree Duncan, there seems to be a lot of 'slanderous' crap being thrown at Revo with out any evidence to back it up what so ever !! If anyone has got a car that has ben fecked DIRECTLY through a revo remap then im sure their solicitors are probably dealing with it, and if its anyone here with evidence then show us all so we can all see it. Dont slag people or companies off for some unknown reason coz u heard something through the cubicle in the bog !!

Let me just clear things up here.

My car [censored] up after being Revo'd.

I think Revo are a good company and I don't believe the incident was a direct results of them mapping it.

I have never implied or inferred that and do not place any blame on them.

All you need to do is look at the loads of happy customers who are driving their cars around in high boost (mine was in low boost 4) without trouble to see the truth.

a lot of mud being chucked on AS.net by the usual suspects - now claiming that Revo remove all rev limiters so you can over-rev the engine - can someone with a Revo confirm this as it sounds very odd

think my APR just had it raised by 250rpm so expected similar for Revo

Yeah Graham that was me...

Was there for about 30 minutes while as Mr Forge did his stuff... Apparently I have a Golf ECU code... iamwithstupid.gif

did it there and then... well chuffed... took it back to the carpark with such a grin on my face... grin.gif

where were you located? On Saturday I walked through several clubs including UK MKIV's & a Seat club but you must have been further down as I would have noticed the grey RS6 sekret.gif

Will have to get to the next essex meet... also need a new job to get me the full REVO treatment ASAP, as i think i'm going to cry when the trial runs out frown.gif

Adam,

What was said on As.Net about the removal of rev limit was bullshit.

I try and visit and contribute to all Audi sites but AS.net can become very anti Revo biased sometimes.

know what you mean Dunc - have been biting my tongue at times but finally had to say something (respectfully worded mind) that there was too much unsubstantiated ruomours flying around of the quality of old Jim here and it justs comes across as dodgy bias - hope JPR keeps out of it as he builds a good site but he works for AmD and it looks unprofessional to be spreading rumours

anyway thread has been deleted so presumably he agrees (or I'm about to be banned ROLLEY~14.GIF)

and Jim - if you haven't had personal experience of a companies products or personally know someone who has probably better not to throw rumours around

Benjy is the only person I have heard have problems (and one Seat guy who is now happy) and he make sit clear it wasn't the chip

by the way guys, remember that revo dont physically chip cars, so the likelyhood of a doggy soldier job wont happen, hence no electronic problems relating to ic`s and joints etc.......... mmmmmmmm SOMEONE once tried to sell me a chip saying he/she would give me a discount....... yet i find out a few weeks later the chip company reduces the price anyway and if i took this offer up from this individual i would be worse off £££ jump.gifbeerchug.gif proper con! smashfreakB.gif

  • 1 month later...

As Revo is the latest fad (So to speak), it's only right that more complaints are heard of, it deffinately does not mean they are crap, as they probably have no more percentage of failures than any other tuner, but due to the shear quantity of cars tuned by them lately you hear more problems.

All I can say is Oettinger is the best, and just because I hae an Oettinger chip doesn't mean I'm 100% biased grin.gifgrin.gif maybe 98%.........
