Mook
OK, so the first thing is that the exclusivity of the 3.2 V6 in a Golf sized car is going out the window. There's loads of debate on TsN at the minute about the Mk5 R32. Right now, black would be the only colour for me, but the pics don't do anything for me. Still need to see one and drive it, but apparently VW has gone "all soft" on the suspension. But... VW have just launched the new Eos at Frankfurt - it looks like this: And the marketing stuff on the VW web site at reads like this: Whilst exact UK pricing and specification is still to be finalised, it is expected that pricing for the 1.6 115PS petrol model will start from under £20,000 RRP. Confirmed standard equipment will include ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme); a pop-up roll-over protection system; front airbags (driver, passenger and side) and specially developed head-thorax airbags; 16" alloy wheels (17" for the 3.2-litre V6); air conditioning; and electric windows. Notable options will include Volkswagen’s leading ten-channel, ten-speaker 600 watt Dyaudio system (as offered on the new Passat) and bi-Xenon directional headlights. I think this thing looks totally awesome, especially from the back The only mention in here is about the 3.2 V6 getting bigger alloys, but the little niggling demons in my head seem to confirm it for me even more - the 3.2 V6 has become VWs new 2.8 V6 and they'll stick it in anything, including coupe/cabrios - we'll probably even see The Return of the V6 4Motion coming to a cinema near you... Sticking a 3.2 in the Eos is a bit like doing the Audi S4 Cabrio... Well I just don't get it. More details on the new Eos are here. Discuss... v6tas
Still niggles me that they keep to the 250bhp when we all know there is alot more they can get out of the engine. The new FSI engine is, so ive read, more tweakable than the one we have in our MK4's so why just stick to 250 ? As for the EOS it looks ok from the back and front but from the side im not too sure. Anyway cabrio's are just a waste of time in the UK due to the @rse weather we usually get !. Do hope the R36 is on the horizon maybe it could be spawned from the concept R that has been on the VW site for a while now?
Smudge
Hang on, has VW actually said it's FSI?? [/ QUOTE ] This cutaway chassis with the 3.2 says FSI on the plaque. Granted, it is a Passat 4-mo and the manifold looks different to the R 32 (badge placement), but one would presume its the same engine.
mooret
In the original Autocar write up it stated that the new .:R32 was indeed using the FSi engine..........

Smudge
[ QUOTE ] In the original Autocar write up [/ QUOTE ] Aye, but Autocar also have a habbit of getting things rather wrong. I've checked a number of VW sites, and none mention FSI. As for the title changes, it's because I changed them all back!

[/ QUOTE ] Along with most of the motoring press. I don't buy it but when I'm getting my tyres changed, I get forced to read Auto Express (a.k.a. The Sun for car news) and they publish such a massive load of tosh as well If they are rolling out the FSI, it will hopefully be even more tuneable than the "standard" 3.
