NeilB
This really is scary The German organisation ADAC, performed a crash test on the "new" Chinese 4x4 JMC LAndwind (a copy of the old Opel frontera ) the results are shocking at just a 64km/h (40mph I think from my dodgey maths)
shao_khan
That looks a certain exit ticket for the driver

simonb
Blood and sand! The dash is almost touching his head - which is also touching his knees! Poor old dummy! Get him into a Renault!
danksy
The real tragedy is that the Frontera is alive and well

Ian_C
For a new car that is absolutely dire driver protection for a low speed head on at just 40mph. Was having great discussions over the weekend about crash safety. Was finding it difficult to explain to my mum how the Smart City is much much safer than her 97 AX despite being smaller. ABS, ESP and a host or airbags as standard in the Smart I think? Safety cell construction keeps the driver and passenger safe. Small front crumple zone helped by the fact the engine will not intrude as of course it is behind in the boot. Anyone able to source any crash clips for the MCC? Fifth Gear did a test a while back I recall: Although the result was not a pretty sight, it did very well considering they crashed it at 70mph.... malagus
It did better than a corsa too IIRC, and is very safe considering its size. go onto www.thesmart.co.uk i'm sure there will be something there.
Ian_C
Cheers Malagus. [ QUOTE ] Under Euro NCAP crash test conditions, the passenger cell survived an impact speed of 39.8mph( 64km/h), with both doors being easily opened afterwards. [/ QUOTE ] Straight from the website. Remarkable considering its size. Oh and indeed even the base model has abs, esp, hill start assist, driver & passenger air bags. Ian
malagus
NP. Ive got a special palce in my heartfor the smart, as whatever you think of the looks, its a masterclass in engineering. The crossblade was soo cool. no doors, no screen, but still v.good on passenger safety. great for teenagers too, as they are cheap to run, and with two seats there is less likelyhood of peer-pressure induced driving dickheadery.
