jpratchett
Well I've been thinking about getting my new B7 2.0 tdi remapped for some time. Searched the net and forums looking for people who had already remapped a B7 TDI. Alas I could not find anyone who had done so. In the end I thought well might as well just do it and see what its like. All I can say is. OMFG!!!! what a difference. There's not a lot of people who can remap the B7 yet, and I didn't want a tuning box. There is of course AMD (expensive) and Star in scotland. Then I found this place. Chiptuning I had a look at the website, and sent a few emails. I was impressed by what I heared from them, they sounded like they realy new what they were talking about. Anyway went up there this monday and got the job done. It was the first B7 A4 tdi they had done so offered me a free dyno run to see what the results were. I new it must have been good when I saw the smile on the guys face as he looked at the pc screen. "168bhp at THE WHEELS" he Said!!!! Holy Sh!t thats good I thought. Paid the man his £470 (inc vat) and drove on home to Basingstoke. What a blast, its a tottaly diferent car. The power is now ALL THE WAY to the red line, smooth as silk and pulls like a train. In fact is drives more like a petrol now than a diesel. Pick up is near instant and just pushed you back into your seat right to the red line. My passenger was gob smacked!! What was realy interesting is that I was behind one of the new BMW 2.0td 3 series going onto the motorway. He booted it (I know this by the smoke coming out of his exhaust) I simply sailed past him, not slowly creeping, but just flew by. All I can say is if you have a B7 A4 2.0tdi you can't go wrong by giveing chiptuning a call and booking your motor in for a remap. Just do it, you know you want to. Oh, if you do, say Jon Pratchett recomended you :-) I'm off for another drive. yeeeehaaarrrrr!!! Jon
seaco
Hi Scoobster I am thinking about having my 2005 A3 TDi 140, chipped after reading your review it sounds great but I have one big question, how did you get on regarding your Audi warranty, I know on their site they say that it won't be affected at all but I just can't see it did you check that this was true? If it is true then I'm booking mine in ASAP...
jpratchett
Seaco Well all I can say is that I spoke to chiptuning and they assured me it was undetectable at any dealer. I dare not ask a dealer in case they note down on a network Computer or something that My car has been remapped. However the map is soo good I dont think it is realy stressing the engine more than the orrigional Audi map. In fact because that torque is delivered so much more smoothly rather than in one big lump I suspect the stresses are less. If your down my way (Basingstoke) then happily let you have a drive of My A4 so you can see what you think. You wont be dissapointed though thats for sure:-) If you do book in, mention my name a a recomendation if you please. Jon Pratchett
Doug_MRC
If the car was flashed through the OBD2 port it will be detectable. That increases the flash counter. If the ECU was opened up, it will not be detectable as this does not increase the flash counter. I wouldn't worry too much about a dealer and a remapped car - all they care about is getting more cars through the door - they are not going to turn away work because they think it is remapped. jpratchett
Doug Thanks for that. As they had to take the ecu out of the car I assume it was opened up :-) Thanks Jon
Doug_MRC
The only reason to take it out is to use the "backdoor" method. It will only be detected if someone drives the car foot to the floor and takes note of the maf, boost or fuel levels - and I cannot see dealers doing that. There is a possibility that cars will get reflashed by the dealers, as they have the technology to do that now. If the remaps have been done properly, they can disable any new writes but increase the counter and new file version - but you keep your remap! The only cars I know of that have been reflashed by dealers are R32s though.
damianmkv
168 bhp ATW ? Seems high but good figure ? I take it no problems ? I only ask coz I had my mkv GT TDi superchipped last week and now I have a policecar siren-like "woooo" starting from about 1100 rpm. Car goes into VW in 10days for a check
jpratchett
Damian Yep 168bhp ATW :-) And I have the Dyno printout as proof . Not a single problem, Very smooth, not extra noises and fuel econymy is better. I realy cant fault it at the moment. just wish I could rev it more as it pulls all the way to the red line and wants to keep going. Give them a call, mention my name and book yourself in :-) Jon
Sparky
Good review Scoobster. I wonder if they'd do such a good job with a 1.9tdi, or if the new engine has played a big part there?
jpratchett
Sparky I would say that the new 2.0 does seem to respond well to a remap. however as i understand it the 1.9 has also always been a good engine to tweak. best thing is to give them a call. I suspect they have done quite a few 1.9's so should be able to give you fairly acurate figures as to what you could expect. Jon
