NewNiceMrMe
Thicko question here. BMW have told me that once they have installed the i-Pod kit into the 6 that I shall need a lead to connect the i-Pod to it's new AUX port. The supplier of the i-Pod says this doesn't come with it (or they don't think it does). Where do I get one and how much are they?
Snail
the aux-in will either be RCA (red and white leads like a home hifi amp), or a headphone in. Id lay odds you need a male->male 3.5mm headphone lead.
NewNiceMrMe
Hmm, see I don't want to go ahead with everything unless I know I have everything (and the right stuff) to get it working. Seems all very mish-mashy to me.
Snail
MrMe, ask them again, they should be putting a proper ipod adapter in, NOT an aux in. an aux-in will require you doing all the track selection on the ipod, whereas the proper adapter should all be controlled by your stereo. The part number should be similar to 65410395292 (the Z4 ipod adapter part number)
NewNiceMrMe
They've told me that all the gubbins are controllable via the i-Drive console and that I won't have to touch the i-Pod. This makes sense too as the installation is in the glovebox - so the i-Pod isn't even accessible. I'll double check though because I am getting rather mystified about all this. Newbie123
If you have to supply the wire then they are not fitting the correct kit. With the AUX kit you have to use the ipod to change track etc. As Snail says they need to fit the "ipod your BMW kit" which includes a docking connector for the bottom of the ipod and then the headunit/idrive controls the ipod. Here's the american website for the kit ........ ipodyourbmw.com
