mcnalu
My 51-plate 2.0SE passat has developed alarm woes for the third time. The first two times the alarm simply went off all by itself, usually at night. First time - water ingress (usual story), dealer dried out wires replaced. £350 quid. Second time - wiring to alarm siren corroded, wires replaced. Cost £150, but dealer refunded previous £350! This time the alarm doesn't go off by itself. When unlocking the car first thing in the morning (following recent cold, damp weather), using the remote, only the driver door unlocks, even when the unlock button is pressed twice. Any further attempt at unlocking will set off the alarm. After randomly unlocking/locking opening closing doors and boot the alarm will shut up and the car can be locked and the alarm will not sound. Unlocking the car immediately results in the same nonsense. Curiously, the locking seemed to behave after I'd driven to work, parked and tested locking and unlocking the car. Any ideas before I pour hundreds of pounds in getting the stealer to fix it - again! Any help is much appreciated Andrew
Wobby
Electrical faults seem too common on these VW's. Hope you get it sorted cheaply. Maybe VW with refund your £150 and just charge you £50, if the trend in pricing carrys on. A few more visits and they could even be paying you when the fix it !! Or try to fix it
mcnalu
Thanks for the moral support Wobby. I agree, Modern VWs - in fact modern european cars including mercedes - seem to be full of electrical related design faults. This link gives me hope that I can fix the problem myself by checking solder joints that often crack inside the driver's door - got to dismantle the door and remove the glass though... http://www.taligentx.com/passat/maintenance/doorlockmechanism/ Andrew
asta
my alarm done similar things when i had water ingress probs. pressing twice caused it to sound etc.. how long has it been since fixed? why not go back and say do the job properly. My car had over £800 of work done to it to fix the water ingress problem so it looks like they havent done the full job if only £350 was charged (i had ccv replaced mind you but its only about £180) perhaps the ccv has now died? steve2
my A4 had water getting into the wiring loom on the boot, the plastic holder was full of water and the RAC man says this is a common problem, mind you it did not solve mine, ended up with a new alarm box( thank god for the extended warranty)
