Drivers Window

Been slightly concerned recently with my drivers side electric window as sometimes when opening the window fully from being closed it made a noise as if it was going down too far (like a thud) but thought nothing of it until today when I closed the window only for it to drop straight through into the door skin never to be seen again!!

Patched it up with some polythene at the moment and going to take it into dealers tomorrow to sort it out.

Luckily enough I have 2 weeks left on warranty to run!!

Do you think this is going to be a recurring problem if they fix it? Anyone else had the same thing?

I'm taking a guess it a mk4 golf, they had plastic clips on the window regulator and these snap, The new ones are metal and dont break,

The main reason the plastc ones break is because the windows become stiff on the rubbers, If you use a rubber lube on the rubbers the plastic clips are fine.

regulator - the device that regulates the window positon.

The clip is part of the regulator mechanism. On passats you dont get the repair parts yet and need the complete mechanism which even includes the metal plate. On golfs you can get a repair part which is around half the price of the complete mechanism. On mine the clip broke and then the wire frayed and got all tangled up so I would have needed the regualtor anyway.

Sorry Emma, I could'nt tell you how much it was as I got it done under warranty. Although I imagine it would only take an hour or so.

My car is a mk4 so I don't know if there is any difference in window mechanisms as well. I'm sure some of the guys on here will know more than me.
