Precab
Had a really good look around my new Cab this afternoon and realised it isn't fitted with locking wheel nuts . Hadn't really thought about it before, but shouldn't these be standard on an Audi (especially one with 18inch alloys)? Or was it down to me to spec them? Huss
Gotcab These are standard fitment - so no need to spec. Have a word with your dealer and I'm sure he'll come up with the goods
lottiefox
I'm sure the cabs all have locking wheel nuts as standard.......should be something in with the spare wheel in the boot I think? Or am I talking Does the manual shed any light......
Precab
Just seems to be standard nuts. Manual doesn't mention them at all. Will not be happy if the Stealers forgotten....
CabGirl
As far as I know they are a factory fit. There was a batch of TT's a while back that didn't have any and a friends B'friend had his wheels pinched!
Precab
Whats strange is that the tool kit seems to include a locking wheel nut key, but the nuts all look plain. They are really hard to access because they are deep set - does the locking nut(s) have a plain cover?
CabGirl
In 21 years of driving I've never taken a wheel off so I don't know.
lottiefox
I will go and look at the TT in a mo but my mate had a flat tyre on his A4 last week and we changed it (well he did) and you had to flick some fiddly little cover things off - but not sure to be honest if his were locking wheel nuts.....(would have thought so..... ) thats not overly helpful really. At least I've sort of changed a wheel.....

stratty31
the wheel nuts have plastic covers on them...use the plastic flimsy tool in the tool kit to pull them off, then you will see 4 17mm bolts and one locking one
Milo
Gotcab I would strongly recommend you invest in a set of McGuards or similar locking nuts. It is a well known fact that there are only 10 Audi/VW lock nut "combinations" and as a means of protecting your wheels they are next to useless. £30-£40 spent now is less than your excess is should you have to claim as some little chav fancied a set of RS6 wheels

Every time I wash the wheels I just give the nut covers a prod. Got a couple of spares now , they're only 30p odd from Audi. They look naff missing. Precab
Thanks Guys - its dark now, but I'll investigate tomorrow. Does anyone else have aftermarket locking bolts?
lottiefox
Not yet but been considering them as a few of the TT forum peeps have had wheels removed..... It does seem the Audi locking wheel nut system is as much use as a chocolate ashtray.
Chav
Quick tip: Kerb your alloys badly then no-one will want to steal them! ...it's even cheaper than buying the locking wheel nuts!

jason_s
just got my mcguards 28018sl i think. i was a bit disappointed to find that the key lock or combination so to speak is open to the elements and the eye......whats stopping someone using some sort of putty to take an impression and then coming back after making key from the mould and nicking the wheels. looks like a simple job to me.
