Small Anoyance...Indicator Unit Replacement...

I am trying to fit new front indicator units (don't ask why, long story...) into my '96 S6.

Have the units - per the owners manual I've slid them into their respective guides, etc. but I can't get them to 'click' back into their seating - it almost appears as though the new units aren't long enough...! (The units are original Audi from the local dealer.)

Anyone out there with a knacky way of making these things fit? I'm close to wandering off into the dealer and letting him charge me an hour for this openfire.gif

Hi!

I think these units are all about the same for all early(ish) Audis.

I had to change the unit on my A8. Came off OK, but took 20 mins to fit it back in! You really have to push the unit hard in and then fiddle with the 'locking bit' behind - where you cannot see! frown.gif

IIRC, you have to fold the locking bit over - then it clicks in.

Put the old one back and feel how it is. It is just that the new one is stiff. I also took the headlamp backing plate off for easier/more access.

Good luck!

Thanks, cruiser647.

Good to know I'm not being particularly thick (and you understood what I was on about...)!

But it sounds like a bit of brute force and ignorance is required, yes? When you say to fold back the locking bit - is this the locking bit on the unit itself or the corresponding (stationary) bit backing onto the headlamp? Or both, even?

One other thing, can removing the headlamp backing plate affect the beam alignment? Have the Irish equivalent to the MOT coming up and don't want to have headlamp beams messing me up if I can help it...

Thanks again,

Edna'...

Removing the headlamp backing plate won't change the alignment (need funny screwdriver thingys for that).

IIRC.........with the indicator out, you should be able to see where the white plastic bits locate onto the headlamp unit.......then slide the indicator in and push the locator clips down onto it.......(this is all from a poor memory from January!!)
