Soapsuds
My wife has just got herself a VW Bora company car for 6 months until she changes. Its actually a great car! Rarer than the Golf and a nice quiet drive (1.6 engine is a bit weak, but its a fully loaded SE spec ) Anyway, the only problem with it it that the boot is incredibly stiff to open / close! Like, i can only just do it and im a fecking Rugby player! Is this common and if so, is there a simple cure as we dont want it off the road for a day to take into the stealers.... Cheers! mulkbear
Take it to the dealers and they will lube it up and free it off (1/2 an hour max)
felixthecat1
That sounds like stuck, not stiff. How can a boot be that hard to open? Perhaps this points to something else, accident damage maybe. I'd check it out for signs of a bad repair, paint overspray, crumpling in the well, mis-match paintwork. Good luck with it. mulkbear
They become very stiff due to the hinges become rusty (not nuts) because the hinges are exposed to the outside of the vehical.
felixthecat1
[ QUOTE ] They become very stiff due to the hinges become rusty (not nuts) because the hinges are exposed to the outside of the vehical. [/ QUOTE ] My drive is on a slope and I always park the car facing down. Therefore there is always (after rain) a massive collection of water just where you describe. I have to admit, I've never had a stiff hinge and I would appear to be a prime candidate. Fine it might rust even though it shouldn't, but enough to almost prevent you from opening it.
