turbodan
A stupid question here! im new to Audi and dont have my user manual to hand, so dont laugh! When i start the car im getting the messages (a)'Service Oil' and (b) the Red coolant light is coming on. (a)Does this mean my car needs oil or a complete oil change? (b)Does this mean the coolant needs changing / topping up? The car is a 1999 1.9 TDI and has done 146,000 Miles. What would be the best oil coolant to get? or should i just let my little Audi/VW garage guy sort it when i get my suspension bushes sorted tomorrow? Cheers - Dan
Mollox
Service all depends on the model - not sure if your 1999 car is on variable servicing or how you access the 'mileage to service' readout. I imagine if its saying that then it is indeed due a service. Re the coolant level you should do a visual check on the level as VAG cars coolant sensors are known to go kranky. Mine tells me my coolant is low (when it isn't) when its cold outside and the car's been sitting for a couple of days or more.
A3Floyd
I'd be a little concerned about the red coolant light as this should never really come on unless your coolant is low which in itself is a concern as its a sealed system so you could have a leak somewhere. IIRC the manual says not to drive the car if this light comes on - especially if yours is a tractor as the TDI unit produces a lot more heat compared to the petrol unit. The 'Service oil' light means that you're due an oil service. this just means that you've done 10k miles since the last service iirc so the car is advising you to get the oil changed. If your car is going in to get the bushes sorted, mention the coolant problem to them. you may need to book the service seperately though. Give them a call and ask them

[/ QUOTE ] Ahhhh, good point! my A3 used to do that in cold weather. Only stayed on for a few mins then went out. Modern cars eh!
turbodan
Going to ring the garage now to see if they can do the oil service at the same time. Thanks again! - Dan
