Clembo
Hi there, have just become the proud owner of an 02 Passat Sport TDI and loving every minute of it. Its coming up to its 40k service and it will probably go to the local VW dealer for its service to keep the stamps. Can anyone please tell me what the garage are likely to service/check on it? Ta very much.
Mook
Welcome to Tyresmoke Clembo Check out your service book at the beginning of the service section - it tells you what needs to be done at each service. You should expect to pay £200 to £300 for your 40K service, plus extras like brake pads etc if they need replacing.
pritesh
I just had my 40K service done on my passat 1.8T sport and it was 310 quid. service included: oil, Oil filter, air filter, pollen filer, plugs, tyre checks and pressure, breaks, fuel lines, break lines, and engine belt checks (power steering belts stuff like that) oh and a diagnostic check too. I was told that I needed the following extra work done: New front pads and discs - which was a pile of rubbish!, i checked these my self and there was plently of life in the pads and discs! - £280 new rib belt which i am gettin done within the next week £120 Air-con/climate control service - £70 needless to say I said thanks but no thanks! ...am gettin the aircon and belt done by another dealer but the breaks ill do myself. best of luck mate
Clembo
Thanks for the response guys. Dealer is quoting me £240 for the service .. though I'm sure there might be extra's like the brakes .... but I guess I'll have to wait and see. Cheers. Mook
One thing you might want to consider is getting the main dealer to do the service and the advice note on what needs to be done in addition - if anything, like pads etc. Then get your car booked into your local VW specialist who will probably charge a lot less for labour. If you're worried about warranty issues, then don't be. As long as your specialist uses VW or OEM parts, it won't affect it.
meriafel
In defence of your VW Dealer, if he believes that your pads and discs are unlikely to last comfortably for the next 10k miles he is duty bound to replace or to bring to your notice at any service. I always put a note on my dashboard stating that "I replace my own pads, discs and wiper blades so please just report on condition". This prevents any nasty escalation of the final bill. Personally I wouldn't have anything other than VW parts fitted while the car is under warranty. You will already have the hassle of proving that the 'alternative VW dealer' has carried out the repair to VW standards without any OEM parts issues. Of course Block Exemption rules state that any competent dealer can undertake repairs without voiding the warranty but you will still need to prove that this is the case. It ain't worth the hassle!! Any work done by a VW Dealer is covered for a year for both parts and labour whether in or out of 'Warranty'. If the failed part is fitted by an alternative garage, you will get the failed part replaced but VW won't pay your dealer for his labour, you will! pugboy
If its an 02 plate wont it be out of warranty now anyway? PPP666 paid £310 to have a few filters replaced and some checks. Remember your car wont have any spark plugs to change as its diesel (you'll know if your glow plugs are knackered ). So I'd imagine that price would be £250 of labour. Get a price from a local VW specialist as I recon you could get the car serviced for half what VW will quote you.
