LeadFoot
I fancy putting some 18's on my A3 (2004), trouble is there are that many to choose from I just can't make up my mind! Anybody out there with any suggestions? I know it's down to personal preference but I'd be interested to know your choices. My favourite at the moment are the RS6's but I'm open to suggestions! Whilst I'm on the subject, should I go for replicas or try to get hold of some OEMs? Cheers!
CarMad
Have a look in the A4 forum. Chav has put some new Audi concept car look alike alloys on his A4 Cab and they look great and didn't cost the earth. Worth looking at. PM him am sure he would help you out. Will stick with what I have got, its a company car so can't be bothered rocking the boat.
Gren
Always had a soft spot for the anthracite Sportecs that AmD knock out. Just over a grand a set though so they're not cheap.
LeadFoot
Cheers chaps! I'll check them out
Hopsta
RSTT's, RS6's, MTM's and Sportec's are the only ones i can think of at the mo.
LeadFoot
Thanks Hopsta! If I were to fit 18's straight onto my car would it look silly if I didn't lower it? It's a sport model so it has the sports suspension as standard. I'd never forgive myself if my pride and joy ended up looking like it's just come off the set of The Fall Guy! "Well I'm not the kind to kiss and tell, but I've been seen with Farah.........." I'll get me coat!
TheReverend
Don't think you need to drop it. Clearly it looks & handles better with a slight drop but I've fitted 18" Slines to mine and it looks just fine. Much better than the standard 17" Avus alloys. Also the ride is firmer and the turn in crisper. I'd try one at a time. Get used to the look of it on stock suspension before going the whole hog. You might find the 18"s are enough... Gren
Sports model suspension is lowered. 18s on the S-Line are fine and as far as I know they asre no lower.
LeadFoot
Thanks guys! I'll have a look around for the best deal. I'm thinking an all in one wheel and tyre package will be the best option for me. In your experience is this the most cost effective solution? Or maybe I should buy the wheels and then shop around for the tyres seperately......my head hurts! One other thing, if I may be so bold, I hadn't given it a second thought until a moment ago but if I upgrade from 17's to 18's will my space saver spare need to be replaced as well? Think I might go for a lie down!
fingermouse
space saver will be ok, Ive always found the packages to be better value than buying wheel & tyres seperate. I was offered 18 inch rstt`s reps with avon 3`s or toyos for 625 all in and delivered
LeadFoot
Thanks Fingermouse! Any chance you could let me know who offered you the deal? Sounds like a decent price to me!
Chav
Hi mate, as CarMad says, I got some 18" nuvolari replicas with tyres from wheelbase in oldham. heres the TSN thread when I got them...my new wheels TSN thread linky heres the chat we had on replica wheels too...replica wheels linky I replaced my £2000 OEM 18" 9-spokes with these reps for £650 including the ZR tyres and don't regret not buying OEM at all. When I looked round wheelbase's showroom, all the audi style replica wheels seemed to be the same great quality. Fantastic if you kerb alloys as quickly as me! LeadFoot
Once again, thanks for all your help! OK, I've finally decided to go for RS6 replicas (wheel and tyre package) and am all set to take a trip out on Saturday to have them fitted! There are three different tyre options available to me as follows: The cheapest option are Fortuna F2000 Super High Performance Tyres. For £75 extra I can upgrade to Yokohama Tyres. For £175 extra I can upgrade to Dunlop Sp Sport 9000 Tyres. I'd appreciate your thoughts on what I should go for. Do I steer clear of the cheap ones completely? I can't say I've ever heard of them before to be honest. Or perhaps someone might be able to tell me if they are a rebadged tyre from one of the larger manufacturers? Your experiences/comments on any or all of the above tyres would be much appreciated. Thanks!
DukeDesmo
Not tried the others you mention but I have the Dunlop SP sport 9000 (9090) and they seem to grip well & I like them, not too expensive either I had 2 replaced a couple of months ago at just over £100 each. stevie_d
My reasoning is as follows: your tyres are the only things in contact with the road and indeed the only things that keep you in contact with the road, hence I go for decent tyres, don't skimp...
