hey, i'm new to this forum and altho i dont have a lisence yet,I will be getting it next year, my dream car is the R32. and i was wondering what kind of brakes come with the car, (btw, idk if it makes a difference, but i would be purchasing the american model) and what quality they are. I have a pretty good knowledge of cars and about most of the internal work and the physics of driving, so if anyone could help me out i'd appreciate it. And i've been hearing ALOT about the Milltek exhaust, and it seems that its the most commonly used exhaust system for this Golf, i'm curious..why Milltek and not other manufacturer? is it really that reliable? I know these might seem like very basic questions, but i just want to know as much as i can about this car, after all, i've been wanting it since i laid my eyes on it haha any tips is greatly appreciated

Welcome to the site, and if I may, impart some useful knowledge about the forum, if you want the best information on the golf R32 and the exhaust systems, and brakes, there's a great search facility between Main Index and Recent Posts 169144-ok.gif

Apart from that, brakes are nice discs alround, and the milltek is awesome 169144-ok.gif

Welcome to Tyresmoke Dreaming 169144-ok.gif

The stock brakes on the R32, whether European or US model and more than adequate to stop the car. They are uprated over the other Mk4 Golfs (like the GTI) and run larger calipers and larger disks on the front.

There are several options available if you want to upgrade your brakes, like running Porsche 993 disks and calipers on the front, or going for some of the options from companies like www.ecstuning.com, www.hpamotorsports.com or www.eiptuning.com

Although other manufacturers are out there making aftermarket exhausts for the R32, there are two main companies in the going - Milltek and Blueflame. Milltek offer the better allround options because they offer high-flow sports cats. There is not much in it between Milltek and Blueflame if you are going for the cat back option on the exhaust - the majority of R32 owners in the UK who have uprated their exhaust have gone for Milltek. The main difference between the two is that Milltek uses slotted joints, whereas Blueflame use bolted joints.

Check out http://www.billswebspace.com/vwr32.htm for some info on other mods you could do to your car when you get it - Bill is on your side of the pond.

Best of luck.
